Why the hate for Robbie Fowler?

I cannot say that I hated him but I was underwhelmed by his signing as it was pretty obvious he did not want to sign for us. Did he not turn us down at first then reluctantly agreed after Keegan begged him to sign?

Most blues I know thought that Shaun Goater could have contributed more than Fowler did if he had stayed. He would have certainly have worked harder

I think that at his peak he was a great finisher but he was well past that when he joined us.

He does seem to be a pretty sound bloke though from what I have read and that others have posted.
 
1. He was unfit when he joined us from dirty Leeds and never seemed to get fully fit.

2. He missed the penalty against 'Boro that would have brought European football back to Manchester City through
Our own merits, rather than through fair play.

3. Signing Fowler deprived us of the money that would have been better utilised to sign Daniel van Buyten from Hamburger SV, which in turn led to David Bernstein, one of the best chairmen this great club has ever had, resigning.

I agree with previous posters that 'hate' is too strong a word, but we certainly didn't take Blobby Fowlup to our hearts like we have many others down the years.
 
Don't hate him but he just wasn't brilliant. Raised his game in the derby matches and then went back to liverpool and raised his game again.
 
To be fair, in his book he says one of his regrets is he didn't do himself justice at Manchester City, said they were good employers and generally enjoyed his time here. You have to remember he was coming to the end of his career and had lost a lot of his pace.

I wish we would have had him when he was I his prime...great player.

He is no dope either, a multi millionaire through some very shrewd property investments.
 
I certainly never hated him, just thought he was well past his best when we signed him. Magnificent player at his peak though.

Not sure he had too much pace to start with mate but I take your point, he was past his best. One of the best finishers I ever saw.
 
Any ex player/pundit would bag one or two or more for City with their clogs on, that's how good City are. Apart from Charlie Nicholas. That useless **** would miss an open net and put it in for a throw in.
 
Pissed me off when he went back to Liverpool and was quoted as saying that now he would really try. Not as high up on the list as McManaman and Mills as wage stealing cunts, but his admission that he never really tried whilst at City was enough to make me think of him less than favourably.
 
The few times I've listened to Talksport he seems to be whoring himself on there and talking about 'sports yapper'

I'm a bit meh when it comes to him in a city shirt
 
I'll always remember he looked 6 pounds lighter in his first game back at Liverpool. It seems he could shift the weight when he wanted to after all.
 
Maybe a different opinion than others on here, but I felt McManamans problem with us was that he was too good a FOOTBALLER for us at that time.
I had a st in level 3 near the halfway line and the amount of times we won the ball, he would get into space to receive it, look for a pass and zero movement from his colleagues, not being the sort to hoof it, he would shake off one challenge, still no movement & by now about three opposition would be round him.
Fowler was an overweight overpaid under motivated waste of money we couldn't afford
 
The problems is that you need to agree terms with the club who have come in for you. His heart will always be Liverpool (or maybe Everton) but he was unwisely brought in by Keegan. I think he was pretty good overall when he wasn't playing with Anelka and have warm memories of several performances. One at home to Palace especially. I personally like the lad but feel his great potential was never really reached ever.
