Why we will win the league!

I said on this thread something like that the winners will only need 90 points. Shows what I know, fuck all!

I said to the guy sitting next to me at the Liverpool game a few times to look at Klopp, he was going crazy on the sideline ... waving and jumping and yelling and calling out his players and almost tearing his hair out ... which to me said his players weren’t doing what he had asked them to, they were a little in the not-lose mode ... but then with his team selection he himself had set that tone that day ... a team had a chance to go 10 pts clear by being positive and going for the win, but they came wanting to not lose and protect the 7pt lead they had ...

They could’ve gone 10 clear and they didn’t ... today I have seen exactly the same ... they had a chance to go 7 clear and they couldn’t yet again ...

Difference between being 5 pts and 7 pts ahead is huge at this stage of the season ... 5 pts means only two results swap our position with them ... a game lost and one drawn more than us and we finish ahead of them (on goal diff) ... 7 pts however would have meant 3 games needed swinging our way out of the only 14 left ...

I said this on that first Thursday in January, that we’d win this league because they will bottle it and shit themselves come the business end of the season ... and I say exactly that again tonight ...

Now watch us win the next three ... on paper they all look tough but Arsenal, Everton and Chelsea (seen them tonight?) are all right in the form we’d like them to be in ... so c’mon City - let’s do this!
Great post.......

Alright Sky Blues, Evertonian here in complete peace

Just wanted to say thank you and you're welcome!

Thank you for saving the footballing world (for at least a few weeks) from having to put up with our red neighbours being even more insufferable than usual.

And you're welcome for the 2pts we kept from them at Goodison which put the title race back in your hands - which you took advantage of in incredibly impressive fashion. Pickford made up for his...moment... at Anfield with a 90th min save from Salah.

Lime Street Station was fun yesterday by the way:

CONGRATULATIONS!

Hahaha......love it.

Since the inception of this thread I hadn't dared to open it let alone read it (must not tempt fate must not tempt fate must not tempt fate) but found myself needing to see and read the thread title everytime I opened up BM, it became my little comfort blanket of hope and belief, I've now read the OP and it rings true to the way I've seen this season pan out over the the last few months with the gurning twat leading his team with emotion and soundbites instead of pragmatism and football nous, well done @mag for having the balls to put it in words all those months ago.

Fair fucks to you mate, I was done after that Newcastle game.

Me too. I honestly thought we'd blown it that night and felt that we had to win every remaining game and even that might not be enough as I couldn't see Liverpool dropping 8 points. When you look at how poor we were in that Newcastle game, it's astonishing that we won the last 14 games on the bounce

Think I remember Carragher saying something like 'maybe chasing will suit Liverpool' and I thought it was bonkers then and it sounds even worse now. Having it in your own hands, always and forever.

Forget goal line clearances or missed penalties or even the head to head: they should have gone for it against United away. A win there and they would have won the league and a loss there and they would have missed out by 2 points.

Good to see United had one use this season! Their last dropped points were at Everton too! Think they were slightly pleased by our win judging by their celebrations yesterday! One lad even had a city flag on the concourse.

The Everton lads singing Liverpool fans on their trains out of Liverpool last night is very petty and very funny.

Have to admit when Malg posted the "why we'll win the league" thread I thought, "now you've gone and jinxed it".

But each week I went in there and although never confident myself in the last two months, I always came out with the feeling that this year we could be on to something really special, rather than, this year could turn out shit.

I have to admire your certainty. I won't even call it optimism, as that is all I had and it wasn't the same thing.

Thank you for that thread, wherever it is now.
You have balls of steel.

Agree.. like you, this thread was the only one I read regularly since January, enjoying the contributions of those who weren't flapping or pointing accusing fingers at certain 'Aunt Sally' players in other threads, especially the match day threads (which I only read when we're away from home as I'm at the ground for home games).

'Malg' and those other contributors actually took time to think our situation(s) at any given point throughout the season in a thoughtful, non-reactive way. I posted something similar in the 'Were We 8pts Behind United?' thread when the dust had settled the day after the Newcastle defeat, as follows..

"Spot on (..apart from confusing Tuesday with Monday..!!) You sum up the season so far and also point the way ahead, especially not giving up on the title, ever.

Taking out the odd international commitments the squad has, as far as the Premiership is concerned we are now in a 14 game season. I know we're 5 points adrift but that equates to a 2-game shift for us to take over Liverpool. If Pep, his team and the squad get their individual and collective acts together (please! no more 'Newcastles', lads!), anything can happen, especially if The Anfield Road Formation Brick Throwing Society continues to run into pesky, insurmountable obstacles such as long grass, snow on the pitch, goalkeepers who refuse to throw the ball into their own nets and so on..

As for the domestic cup competitions, well, we have a one-off final due and potentially 4 FA cup ties to win that trophy. That would be 19 games between now and 18 May, 15 weeks from now. Just over 1 game per week on average. Add in the Champions League, a run of 7 games to the final on 1 June would change that to 26 games in 19 weeks, or 1.5 games per week on average. Keep the players fit, get them ticking over like last season and up to December this and, as I said above, anything can happen. It will be tough and demanding on the squad but anything can happen.

But most of all, we never should never give up on the title until it's all over! We never give in. Ever."

So, as others have said, well done to 'Malg' for starting this discussion/'support group'.. cojones de acero!

Yes great thread. Great outcome and great positivity. But the catalyst was the dippers drawing next day after reversal against magpie's versus Foxes. Because of the wind or rain or snow or no dodgy keeper or no bus to attack or no God in heaven or whatever.

Thank you all who’ve been using kind words towards me since yesterday ... my glass has always been half full and would remain so no matter how tough the situation we find ourselves in ... so expect all the positivity coming from me in future threads too!

This thread however made it to RAWK as well and was referenced in their “Chasing the Title” thread which till this thread popped up here was called “The Pack Chasing Us” and the irony of it was as they changed their own thread’s name half way through the season as their lead started to slip away, they referenced this thread and called it that (paraphrasing here) “City fans are clueless about football and they don’t understand what a genius and masterpiece of a manager they have and that’s why we the City fans start threads like why we’d win the league - because we don’t understand football like they do”

No jokes, I’m serious!
