Why wont Bobby learn english?

I think his English has come on leaps and bounds and am really impressed at where he is at. Compare him to Capello, Capello's been here for longer and his English is fcukin awful.
His English is certainly better than yours.

I would imagine there are journalists in Italy he knows and trusts. That is why he is happy to speak to them at length, knowing his words will not be twisted for reasons of cheap sensationalism.
After the spiteful, nonsensical way most treated him since he arrived, I doubt he trusts a single English journalist. And he is right not to. Would you in the circumstances?

I agree, I cringed watching the coverage when I got home of the manager's pre-match interview; monosyllabic, inarticulate, humourless and abrupt............but clearly he wasn't happy to be asked about the Luis Suarez situation first up and why he hadn't started Gerrard.

If you speak a second language you are always worried about being misquoted or unintentionally saying something stupid.....particularly in business. Mancini increasingly uses humour which translates and there is no better demonstartion of an excellent grasp of understanding than being able to use humour in a second language.

I'm sure when talking to the players his English is better and he gets his point across much easier. I think European managers have a kind of fear of the British press and so are very careful with their words. Also, I might be wrong here but English is a lot more expressive than Italian, hence why Mancini uses the word 'important' a lot.

Can't argue with any of that.

I guess I've lost count of the number of times Mancini has been asked a question in a press conference, or post match, and has completely misunderstood the question and answered something else.

Still, as I said earlier, it's not a big deal, it's not even a deal. But in much the same way I wish Silva could finish better, I wish Mancini's English was a bit better... :)

If he wins the league this year I expect him to spend an afternoon with Martin Samuel giving us an in depth glimpse into his mindset.

To be fair, Martin Samuel is the only national journalist to give him a fair shake from the start.

Spot on. Martin is the number 1 football writer in the country and he's the only person who defended us when we tried to sign Kaka - and - as you say he has given Mancini a fair shake from day one...
