Wigan will sell out. They sold nearly 22,000 for the semi and I'm guessing that more than a few would have been put off by the fact they were playing Millwall. Where there may be an opportunity is with the 40,000 'neutrals'. Many of those tickets sooner or later find their way into the hands of fans, so City fans will have less competition for those tickets than would be the case if we were playing a 'big' club.
In terms of the injustice of so many tickets going to 'non fans', I agree, it is a piss take, but it was always the case. Finalists never got 40,000 for the FA Cup final, certainly in my time, which goes back as far as the 1969 Cup Final. They got 40k for the League Cup Final. If my memory serves me correctly, at the old Wembley, the FA Cup finalists got 27,500 tickets. The rest went to 'The wider football family', because it was 'footballs day' People complained about exactly the same thing then and it's the same every year.
At least this time round, we'll be able to swamp the place by getting hold of the floating tickets. In future finals, when we may be up against Liverpool/Arsenal/Spurs or, shudder at the thought, Utd, it will be much, much harder.
