Wildlife

In my garden / out the windows:

Muntjac deer, cute but a pain in the arse - hit one in the car once made one hell of a mess.
Squirrels, family of them, pain in the arse - strip my trees of nuts. Fucking tree rats
Moles, pain in the arse. Mostly know they are about when it’s really dry else they keep themselves to themselves.
Bats - used to live in the roof of our house and have baby bats which was cute - would find them in the kitchen when they were just starting to learn to fly - but since we got dogs they don’t fancy it for some reason. But of an evening they are flying around the garden and house.
Hedgehog - very cute
Family of foxes - make a sound like someone is being murdered
Dragonflies / damselflies / bees / the odd wasp / butterflies / slugs / snails / mice / shrews. Birds a plenty. Have some blue tits nest in the roof for breeding. Had a pidgeon this year which nested in a nest in a bush that a blackbird had previously used. Used to get jackdaw’s in the chimney but capped that off but they find any hole in the roof. Messy fuckers.

Then once out and about

Herd of red deer - see them out and about from time to time, absolutely stunning
See the odd otter / stoat out
Seen a couple of snakes but very rare

Some birds seem to be doing really well recently, I often walk by the Mersey in Stockport and DIPPERS, kingfishers and goosanders can be seen right into the town centre if you're lucky
Those dippers are everywhere, particularly dirty old pubs and in drive thru mcdonalds

Believe it of not but as I walk down Palmerston St towards the ground and cross the River Medlock I have seen a Kingfisher on 2 occasions.

Sadly not for a couple of seasons but I always look.

Amazing to see that in a neglected inner city area where the river is just a dumping ground for the tramps!

Seen a heron just chilling on the bridge at city watching the arena getting built haha got a picture but won't let me upload

A couple of snow geese
Canadian Geese are a big problem here, especially for those who have a waterfront property.

They eat and poop all day long and it’s difficult to get rid of the bastards. They poop every 12 minutes and the average adult goose will poop 2lbs of shite a day.

If they take up residence on your lawn for the day, then 50 of them will leave about 100lbs of green shite behind……...and it wouldn’t be uncommon to have larger numbers than that descend.

In Idahoblue’s picture there are 1390 geese, so they’d poop 1.25 tons of green mess a day on your nicely manicured lawn, making mowing the grass slightly challenging.

Are you in Barcon land?
If so you can shoot as many as you like
Those in the photo are snow geese same shit, different name. The only great thing about them was the album by Camel

PS they're Canada Geese, not Canadien (that bit's just for @Barcon. French ****

I live north of San Francisco near some open space and we have all sorts of creatures. The most irritating by far is the flock of 20 or so wild turkeys, who never shut up, are dumber than shit, and speaking of shit, shit everywhere. They are likely Republicans.

But we also have great horned owls, red-tailed and Cooper's hawks, crows, turkey vultures, and some two dozen species of birds that we've counted at our feeders (woodpeckers, scrub jays, various songbirds). In 20 years here I have twice seen a bald eagle, which was pretty awesome. During big storms, we will get the occasional great blue heron who will fly up from the SF Bay and take refuge in our backyard (garden) (we're in a bit of a hollow out of the wind).

Among mammals, we have coyotes (scary and eerie when they howl at night), mule deer, jackrabbits, skunks (not for a while -- the GH owls eat them), opossum, lots of chattering squirrels, and every once in a while grey foxes. And raccoons -- those little bastards will get into any trash (rubbish) bin outside and not locked down.

We have snakes (garter mostly; the periodic king; I've seen rattlers in my county but never near my house) and salamanders and lizards. We are very lucky to have monarch and swallowtail butterflies -- a monarch actually built its cocoon on our house this year -- among others. And lots of black widow spiders -- they are endemic here.
