Will AI wipe out humanity?

I don't see it wiping out humanity as such but it could easily have a devastating affect on our lifestyles. The more reliant we become on I.T. systems the more at risk we become.

Just imagine a day where you wake up in the morning and your identity and financial history has gone, your bank account is empty, your pension pot has gone, you can't buy food and other essentials, you have no gas or electricity, you have no internet and can't contact anyone to resolve these issues. Now imagine that this happens to millions of people all at once.

Society as we know it would crumble within day's.
A sort of reset you say, we should just equally share the wealth of the 2,640 billionaires (except Skeik Mansour) with a total net wealth of $12.2 trillion between everyone else globally, end to world poverty, end to lack of clean water, potentially end to mass unskilled migration and possibly end to mass population explosion in developing countries.

Artificial General Intelligence is the single largest threat to the human species, in front of nuclear war, climate change and other extinction level events.

The only people who disagree are generally people who don't know what AGI is or why it's much more likely to wipe out the entire world than those things. This is almost certainly what will kill all life on Earth.

Are you an expert or an AI entity yourself?

The human species was nearly wiped out a long time ago but somehow some pockets of people survived. I think they will again, whether the threat is AI or other humans. And if I'm wrong who cares (unless this slice of data is somehow discovered by a future race and if so I'd just like to state "united are shit. City till I die!!!").

There is no definitive answer to whether AI will wipe out humanity, as different experts have different opinions and perspectives on the potential risks and benefits of AI.
One of the main concerns that some AI researchers and developers have is that AI could become so powerful and intelligent that it could surpass human capabilities and control, and eventually harm or destroy humans. This is sometimes called the “singularity” or the “alignment problem”. Some of the scenarios that they envision include:
  • AI could be weaponized and used for mass destruction or oppression
  • AI could generate misinformation or propaganda that could destabilize society and undermine democracy
  • AI could become concentrated in the hands of a few actors who could impose their values or interests on others
  • AI could make humans dependent or obsolete, and lose their sense of purpose or identity
These are some of the reasons why hundreds of top AI scientists, researchers, and others have signed an open letter to the public, calling for mitigating the risk of extinction from AI as a global priority. They argue that AI poses a threat to humanity comparable to pandemics and nuclear war, and that we need to take proactive and collaborative measures to ensure its safe and ethical development and use.
However, not all experts share this pessimistic view. Many others believe that fears of AI wiping out humanity are unrealistic, exaggerated, or distracting. They point out that:
  • Current AI is nowhere near capable enough to pose such existential risks, and we are far from creating artificial general intelligence (AGI) or artificial superintelligence (ASI) that could match or surpass human intelligence
  • AI is a tool that can be used for good or evil, depending on how humans design, regulate, and apply it
  • AI can also bring many benefits to humanity, such as improving health, education, environment, economy, and innovation
  • AI can also complement human intelligence and creativity, rather than replace it
These are some of the reasons why many other AI researchers and practitioners focus on addressing the near-term harms and challenges of AI, such as bias, discrimination, privacy, accountability, transparency, and security. They argue that AI can be a force for good if we ensure its alignment with human values and interests, and its respect for human rights and dignity.
So, there is no consensus among experts on whether AI will wipe out humanity. The answer may depend on many factors, such as how we define intelligence, what kind of goals we give to AI systems, how we monitor and control their behavior, how we distribute their benefits and costs, how we educate and empower ourselves and others about AI, and how we collaborate with each other to shape its future.

Ultimately, the question of whether AI will wipe out humanity is not only a technical one, but also a moral one. It is up to us as a society to decide what kind of relationship we want to have with AI, and what kind of world we want to live in.

how does all life physically die from AI ?

how does all life physically die from AI ?

Humanity has the ability to create a General AI but not the power to safeguard it. And the consequences of that can ultimately only result in extinction. A decent anaolgy would be the ability to create a nuclear weapon but not the ability to control its replication or detonation.

Rob Miles is a populist AI safety researcher who can explain this better than I will.

There's not a ton of working AI safety researchers who are posting on social media in an accessible way but the conclusions here are very much the consensus in academia.
