Will Messi make himself an all time great in the next month?

Great... Eto'o scored 36 the season before.

Ronaldo had a better goal scoring ratio than him last season.

Jose Mourinho called ibrahimavic the best in the world.. Does it mean it is correct?

Watch him at the world cup, and when he does nothing everything will be blamed on his team - it is a joke.

When david villa scores more goals than him next year will that make him the best in the world?

He said the best he had ever seen. OK Guardiola is his manager but that is some claim. I have lost count of the number of people who proclaim him to be merely the best in the world. At 22 he has done the lot except for the World Cup. Like you say we will see over the next month.

But if/when he flops at the WC it will undoubtdly be blamed on the team not him.

I actually believe C.Ronaldo is just as good.

Now the real R9 now were talking:-

Arguably the best game I've ever seen a player played.

This is another one:-

Overrated, living off playing with Xavi and Iniesta.

Goes anonymous too often. Against good defenses does nothing etc..

Remember eto'o scored just as many in the Barca team (does that make him the best in the world?)

I trust my eyes and don't rely on goal scoring stats.

He is the best since Maradona I've seen. In fact, he has a defensive/pressing side to his game which Maradona never had so he could be better in the end.

No offence, but when I hear anyone say Messi is "overrated" I just turn off. The lad's a genius.

No..and I don't mean no because he's not good enough, but because he's 22. There's so much more left in him and so much more that he's left to learn and do and experience. That is way too much pressure on a lad his age.
He's an outstanding player and he'll continue to improve hopefully and in time, he might be up there with the greats (not the Ronaldo greats, but the real greats.) He's still so much to learn and improve. This is his first world cup, and we'll just have to see. What he needs is the freedom to do what he's able to do on the pitch, unfortunately his manager, for the player he was, seems to be out of it on this one.

This type of pressure is a bit much for a lad his age, because no matter how good a footballer he is and what he might or mightn't become, he's still 22 at the end of the day and that's an awfully young age to be put up there as one of the greats and demanded brilliant performances every time he takes the field.

He's an outstanding player but I don't think this will be the so called making or breaking of his "greatness" untill the next world cup, providing everythign goes well. He could be outstanding this WC, but he's still very young and is still learning.

The people saying he is as good as Maradona I have a question for you.

Did you ever watch Maradona play apart from YouTube videos? Watch Maradona's seasons at Napoli then tell me Messi is as good.

I have said he can be as good as Maradona. I watched him a lot (obviously on the TV) during his prime and that season he won the league for Napoli on his own was astonishing.

Messi has the god given talent Maradona had and he has yet to reach his prime, let's see what happens. People always tend to look at players in the past as the geniuses and ignore the present day. Messi is a wonderful football player.
