Will Smith slaps Chris Rock at the Oscars

One last thing…

Does anyone else think that Smith completely sucker-slapped Rock?

He stepped up there like it was a bit, Rock was laughing, he’d seen Smith had been laughing, and Smith kept his head down as he approached (possibly so his apparent new found anger was not apparent), and didn’t lift it until he slapped Rock.

I think EVERYONE thought it was going to be a comedic moment, maybe even some rehearsed schtick, until the whole auditorium heard the slap. Even then I think some people still thought it was schtick!

However, once Smith started shouting the F bomb from his seat, it became quite clear it was anything but a rehearsed bit of performance schtick!

Anyway, having seen it a time or two again, it looks more and more like a bitch move, sucker slap!

Who gives a fuck anyway. Minor drama over luvvies. See girls behave worse in pubs every day. Fuss over nowt. I get it was the oscars like, but still. Frank Sinatra would have belted him properly

Methinks there’s a little analysis paralysis going on here.

He made a crack about her almost shaved head, in reference to GI Jane, but it’s the height of obfuscation to suggest it had anything to do with the “strength of the character” in the movie!

He cracked a joke, Will laughed, Jada didn’t. Will got up and slapped Rock. Smith overstepped and stumbled into illegality. Rock was the bigger man and shrugged it off, even after the verbals that continued from the expensive seats.

Smith went on to win the Best Actor Award when he should not have been in the building by any normal security measure…but he’s Will Smith, this is the Oscar’s and his category hadn’t been announced yet!!!

Hollywood gave itself yet another black eye (no racist pun intended) last night…and that wasn’t the only incident!

The black female comedian picking single men out to come back stage with her was one step over the equality line, but then physically, and rather over enthusiastically, patting down Josh Brolin and Jason Mamoa was waaaay over the line!

Turn the sexes around and it’s bad enough. Turn it around, but make the races the same (black male host patting down white female leading ladies) and you have a whole other ballgame!

Hollywood hypocrisy usually knows no bounds, but Oscar 2022 has set a new bar! Entitlement, wealth, name and stature, and even race were all on show…and that show was a disaster!

I honestly couldn’t give two shits about 99% of all of that BUT if Hollywood is going constantly be “oh so righteous” about race, gender, #MeToo, and every other perceived slight in life, then it needs to take a long hard look at itself when rewatching the show. It won’t be a pretty self portrait!!!

Jim Carrey summed it up for many people…

You miss the entire point about 'GI Jane'.

I mentioned who the character was and what people seem to dismiss about the fictional character Rock picked to compare Pinkett-Smith to. Whilst it's true Rock probably made a super weak joke about the hair (not the illness some people forget!), he also compared her to a fighter.

The only other thing I'll add is that whilst the Smith family were boycotting the #oscarsowhite period, they embarrass the Black community with their classless behaviour.

Oh and Chris Rock said it best...

Can't have The Oscars neither!

Fuck The Pinkett-Smiths!

I first found out about Kareem Abdul Jabbar during the George Floud reaction when one of his essays/articles went viral and I’ve read everything he’s put out since.

I can’t remember the last time he wrote something and the general reaction wasn’t “yep, he’s nailed that”. I suppose partially it’s because he sticks to what he knows very well, but he’s also an excellent writer and his arguments are so considered it makes it hard for people who disagree to not find it at least a respectable argument.
Can’t say I’ve ever read anything by him before or don’t recall but he’s certainly nailed this.

According to the news here, the average price for Chris Rock shows just went from 40 something dollars to 340 something dollars. Most expensive tickets here in Toronto are $1,700.00 ea.

And here's me balking at paying $55.00 to see Interpol and Spoon on the same bill.

The Tout's, err sorry, Resellers, will be extremely happy.

Just reading that Smith was asked to leave the Oscars after the slap but refused.

From Jada Pinkett-Smith last week:

“I don't give two craps what people think of this bald head of mine. Because guess what? I love it.”

Hmmm, I guess she DOES care if ”people” dare to make an obvious movie reference joke about it…even if they do say “Jada. I love you!” beforehand!
There could be some truth in her words as I'm sure most women would've worn a wig.
And we dont know if she encouraged Will Smith to do what he did.

its part of the reason their awards nights have become a turn off for many who used to watch it for what it was intended.

I actually used to enjoy the banter and the night but not anymore and all of my friends and relatives have switched off long ago.

the slap and reaction will keep Hollywood in the news for a while but as you allude to for the wrong reasons.

if they keep it political then it will only go one way and most of Hollywood have forgotten their true worth to their consumer base and how fortunate they are to enjoy the lifestyles they lead.

I compared that to the tribute memorial to Shane Warne last night and its like chalk and cheese.

A shame that Warnie wasn't present for his send off and a real shame that the Academy Awards presentation took place at all.

After he’d done it, he looked like The King on his throne shouting down the Jester for daring to mention The Queen’s name!
He looked an idiot
He stood up walked over and expected rock to shy back, but he stood there.
So he slapped him, and he stood there.
He walked back to his seat with a stupid walk sat down and realised rock was still stood there so he started shouting nonsense (like in a school playground).
Only in Hollywood can these people preach all night to the masses then do the wrong thing themselves
Spineless the lot of them.
When did anyone get up and slap Harvey Weinstein ???

He'll get suspended for either 1 or 5 years - not sure how much that means anything, barring being able to vote), and I expect there to be a donation to the Academy charity.

I don't see it's tenable to do more given they are now reported to have failed to eject him.

Oh, and the Academy might announce that they are considering guidelines to presenters.

That "smack" has done wonders for all the careers of the people involved, stinks to high heaven to me.
