Will the U21 tourney exhaust Richards for next season?

It only last two weeks from start to finish. So it shouldn't exhaust him.

If they go all the way then he won't have had any rest at all, maybe a week.

all this talk of players being 'exhausted' is absolute bollocks, they've never had it so easy, how did they used to go on in days gone by ffs?

Players are miles fitter these days and run greater distances. There is also the factor of much more European football in the modern game. We had 12 Europa games and only made the last 16. Plus International competition is much more demanding on the schedule. Unnecessary friendlies, more teams being entered into the WC and its qualifiers etc.

Also, back then, everyone used a small squad. Every team had players as unfit as each other. These days if you have a team of players at 85% of their peak, against a team who are 100% of their peak, the difference can be significant. You can't honestly tell me that Yaya and Barry looked fresh during March. Yet with a bit of rotation and a lighter schedule following our EL exit they were much better in the latter stages of the season.

Still don't think it will affect him. He is a very fit athlete.

He is still human though, even the fittist of athlete's such as Usain Bolt and Chris Hoy need to rest their bodies and they don't do half of the work professional footballers do.

Anyway he will get the rest he needs and deserves as he's pulled out of the squad through injury.

Well he's pulled out of it now anyway! It will give him a chance to recover fully over the summer - its clearly troublesome for him as it has unfortunately kept him out for quite a number of weeks already

edit: forgot the link <a class="postlink" href="http://www.skysports.com/story/0,,12016_6953483,00.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.skysports.com/story/0,,12016_6953483,00.html</a>

Carroll, Wilshere, and Micah all withdrawn now, England had a fair shot of winning the U-21 Euros but it seems to be shrinking by the day. But I'm glad about Micah withdrawing because he shouldn't even be playing for the U-21s anymore - surely he will be ineligible at last after this tournament?
