... the biggest flop in football history?

Kaka cost more at Real and hasn't worked out but has made some contributions between his injuries.

Veron of course tanked badly at United but his price tag was 20m less than Torres'.

Shevchenko also cost approximately 20m less than Torres and bombed hard in England but again price tag compared to Torres is important to consider.

Torres still has time to turn it around but everything about him suggests that he just isn't the same player anymore. The media continues to use excuses but they have been going on for around a year now - they used to say a lack of fitness, then a lack of confidence, now at Chelsea it rotates between confidence and not fitting in Chelsea's system yet. At what point do you draw the line and just say - he's not what he was.

Tonight's match was a perfect example to judge 2011 Torres. At his best, he made Vidic look like a Sunday league defender. Tonight he barely made Vidic (or anyone else) break a sweat. The closest was a single header that forced a save out of Van Der Sar.

Thank god we didn't sign him as many on here were clamouring for! Dzeko has hardly set the world on fire but he cost practically half, has more upside, and hasn't noticeably deteriorated from his time in Germany.

The price will obviously always be the main factor, however, our very own Robhino or RSC would give him decent competition.

I really hope so.

Yeah, I think you can only really judge him after he has a full pre/season with the team. I mean, would you really have declined the move if you were him?

I'll get shouted down for this...but Chelsea lost more money on him than we did.

With the current inflation/climate, those two fees aren't as far apart as you might imagine. Awesome player...Square peg in a round hole at Chelsea.

It's mental. A few years ago, he was one of the best in the world. Looks decidedly ordinary in almost every game he plays in. Can anyone guess the last game he looked truly world class in? Yep...was against his current club.

there might be some truth to not fitting into Chelsea's system, though.

If he keeps this up he'll be a big bust, but he could come good next season with a new manager/new system.

Don't forget, Chelsea have less creativity and service in their midfield than even us.

If we are going simply by the first half season, then NO. Robihno was fantastic for us.

Are you serious?

Robi cost £32m and scored 15 goals for us.

Even RSC scored four goals for City; Torres, on current form, still has a long way to match that, let alone Robinho

I reckon he'll do a job for them next season, looks atrocious just now though! Just wondering how many games did Carlos play for us without scoring again? Was it not close to 10?

Pretty sure Tevez scored on his second appearance for us, against Palace in the League Cup (although I could be wrong).

As for Torres, he's been poor for such a long time now that you can't really call it a blip. £50m seems a preposterous fee.

He's one player I'm so glad we didn't get. I wonder if the press would have given him such an easy time if we had signed him? They'd probably have a minute clock on the back pages every week reminding everyone when he last scored.

Very.

He may well have played superbly for us on the spordic occasions he could be arsed, and admittedly he was an excellent statement of intent.however,he never wanted to be here and basically saw us as some sort of joke,he couldn't even be bothered to stay fit let alone put a shift in.
We then ended up paying his astronomical wage while he enjoyed an extended jolly up in his homeland......
He disrespected and embarrassed the club far more than any other player i can think of - a complete wanker,an awful signing and we are well rid.

I actually can't believe we managed to recoup a decent fee for him.

I am sorry, but this is all bloody revisionist history. Robihno came at the start of the 2008/09 season and pretty much lit City up. Scored 14 goals leading the team and tied for 4th best in the league in his first season. He got injured, but played some games still injured and looked bad, so he was dropped down the pecking order. Since he (like all players should) was more interested in furthering his career, than playing stepping mat at City, he asked for a transfer to a club where he can get more playing time (i.e. weekly, so he can make the WC team). Granted, City was gracious to grant him his wish, but he didn't do anything wrong.

He was injured for crying out loud. Was he supposed to play on one foot? He did his best when he was at his best. And when he got injured and lost some form, instead of supporting him, a few moaned and booed every mistake and complained about every 'supposed' lazy step he took.

Anyway within a month of getting back to Santos he regained form and quickly banged in 16 goals in 21 appearances and got his wish of making the Brazilian team. But was certain England "and their celebrate only the guys who get stuck in" fans wasn't for him. So he moved on to the bench of Milan, playing cameos early until it became obvious how integral and intelligent he was.

Now, he has pumped another 10 goals in 28 appearances... I wonder which City AM/Support striker, has banged in 26 goals in the last 50 appearances. Yeah! That's right, NONE!!! So much for the "he was too lazy" bugaboo.

Too many fans can't see the forest from the trees it seems :(

Lord. I am so happy we didn't get him. He looked lost all season at Pool, and I wondered why so many wanted him here. I believe he was the #1 wanted striker on bluemoon. ahead of Dzeko, who I wanted, but is't doing to well either :( But at least he was on form before coming here, unlike Torres, who clearly wasn't.

He did a great dive in the 1st half. As for Dzeko unlike Torres & Carroll he has never played in the prem. He is also use to playing in the middle with wingers. Plus he's score in cup games. He will come good next season with wide men playing. Not SWP who has no pace left.
