Will We Do Business in the Winter Window?

100% in agreement Ric
Something seems to have changed .... Gundo's long-term injury maybe tipped the scales?

Having just watched his press conference on the OS, I'm less convinced that we will do any business now. The quotes in isolation were a bit misleading.

I think he's deliberately being ambiguous. The message he's trying to send is "We are prepared to buy in January but only if the deal suits us. And I dont want my players distracted by reports that they're about to be replaced".

Think we'll definitely sign a centerback and also a central midfielder on a short term deal. Would like to see Xabi Alonso however he's still a regular starter for Bayern but someone in that mould. Maybe Julian Weigl is a possibility
Weigl just signed a new contract. Can't see him leaving for a while.

Julian Draxler is going to PSG.

That's a surprisingly high-calibre player moving in January... perhaps this window will be a bit different to the last few years and there are actually opportunities to bring in useful squad players or even young talent that would benefit the team?

Draxler is joy to watch.

Congrats to PSG, and hopefully Sane will turn out better player than Draxler.

Wolfsburg have totally gone to shite and he'd have no attachment to them, only recently left Schalke, he probably agitated for the move. Not many top players in that scenario.

Gabriel Jesus is the only one but it will not stop us from tying a few deals for the summer.

Not a defender Pl but it will do.
We need at least one quality centre back, preferably two, the full back positions need strengthening, and we could do with a defensive midfielder, and we're signing another attacking player. Our squad is criminally unbalanced and this needs addressing asap

I agree hgblue defenders should be top priority but in January it is impossible getting the right players into the club imo. vVD would be a good signing (although I do have my doubts whether he is top quality) but the signs are that Southampton are putting up a strong resistance (wacking a £60m price tag to start with).

I'm afraid we're reaping what we have sown by allowing ourselves to be woefully short of defensive options. This means selling clubs are going to take the piss with the fee, so we either pay up or continue to leak goals. Not a great position to be in, but Van Dijk is probably the best option to get us to the end of the season, then we can adopt a more measured approach

I wouldn't go as saying far reaping what we sown as our current crop are still getting to grips with the system (they should be helped by the rest of the team imo) and on their day they are good defenders (including Kolarov) and should be ok for the rest of this season.

I heard a rumour in the summer that we had sold Bony to some chinese club but as their transfer window was closed wr loaned him out until Jan - anyone know if there is any truth to this?

I think we`re saving all our pennies for summer,so we can throw a big `un at Barca for Messi.
