Will we win the league this season? No

You obviously weren't watching when we conceded that early corner from the overhit backpass and then a goal from our keeper farting around
Semenyo slipping 3 times when City were on the break
Were u watching when raya nearly spilled the ball right into haalands path or when they put it out on the full multiple times, or when gabriel decided to try rugby with haaland cos football wasnt working, or how bout when madueke kept running out of a play cos he got no change out of NOR, both teams made early mistakes and they capitalised on one of ours but overall we handled the pressure way better than them.

I think the opposite. They will take confidence from the fact that they came to the Etihad and gave us a game.

Expect no favours from Arsenal, if we are going to win it we have to do the business ourselves.

They are still slight favourites imho.
Time will tell. I think that come the end of May, we will be recovering from one mighty hangover after celebrating a domestic treble.

Yesterday will have broken them, mentally.

Fans seem too confident about their ability to undestand how sport psychology works.

If we win the title, it's because we have been trained to hit form in April and May and may be a bit fresher than them due to not being in the CL. And because Pep is Pep. That's it.

I'm not sure if anyone else has picked up on this?

Arsenal's remaining 5 PL fixtures are all in London. 3 at home, 1 away to West Ham, and 1 away to Palace.

It's just coincidence how that's happened.
7 out of 20, so more than a third of teams in the league, are from London - or nearly a third of the 6/19 non-Arsenal teams. it's not statistically very unlikely that 2 away games in a row would be in London.

If anything the pressure has actually been released from Arsenal.

They now have nothing to lose and the worst has happened.

It’s just as likely to free them as it is to finish them. We will not know until they play their next few games.

City have been the better team against the top 10 teams, Arsenal have won more points against the bottom half teams.

Against the top 6, City have won 17 pts from 9 games vs 12 pts for Arsenal from 10 games. If we beat Villa, then the difference will be 8 pts!

Basically, Arsenal have struggled against the top teams but have been able to bully the bottom half teams.

They should win against Newcastle, but the latter tend to perform well vs Arsenal.

That might be the case indeed.

After they lost to Villa in early April 2024, they won all remaining games.

But it's hard to predict. I think they might find it difficult vs Fulham and W Ham away, due to playing these games after the 1st and 2nd leg vs Atletico respectively.

In the Premier League, Arsenal have been stuck on 70 points since they beat Everton on the 14th March. Insane stat. No points in 36 days. Nul. Zero. Nada. In that time they’ve played 3 CL games, lost the Carabao Cup final to us, lost their 6th round game agaianst Southampton, lost at home to Bournemouth, and at our place yesterday. Their CL exploits - which they’re having, and deserve, and which we are not, and therefore don’t - have scarcely lit any fires under them, to coin a phrase. City, by contrast, since our deflating draw on the same day as Arsenal’s last PL points, had an honourable defeat with 10 men against FC Franco, played Arsenal off the park to win the Carabao Cup final, battered Liverpool in the 6th round, and then got maximum points against (at the time) 5th and 1st in the PL.

Graphs going in totally opposite directions.

But their run-in is one you’d definitely want as an Arsenal fan. Barcodes in deeper freefall, Fulham the ultimate on-the-beach opponent now, West Ham not good enough, Burnley worse, and Palace on the final day. On current form, 5 straight wins after what would be 6 weeks without a point would be a pretty tall order.

Advantage Blues? Got to make our form count now.

I think Arsenal have been writing themselves off far too quickly and their mentality is shocking. They have the points on the board, they have less games to play and they have the better run in. I'd still prefer to be in their position even after yesterday. Yesterday was 50/50 and it was just taking your chances that made the difference.

They've definitely bottled winning it comfortably but they haven't bottled winning it. The only banana skin I can see for them is that West Ham away game. Depending on other results that game could be one which keeps West Ham up and relegates Spurs. The CL will also be a distraction around then too.

We have some really tough games. Wednesday should be relatively simple on paper... Brentford and Bournemouth could be fighting for Europe, who knows going to Everton. It's definitely not over and we do have the momentum but we need to keep our heads because we didn't win anything yesterday.

Palace have always done weird things at our place and I honestly think that we'd do well to get to the last game with the potential to win it. And then it's going to be another nail biter last day finish like more or less every year that we've won it.

Great win for us.

I see the game in hand on Wednesday as an opportunity to increase our GD before we each have 5 games left both 3 home 2 away.

After our game v Burnley, Arsenal have two home games before we play Everton away. If they win both that’s a lot of pressure on us.

My main concern is that they played well against us and probably deserved a draw. I was hoping they had collapsed. It seems they have their form back just in time to for this to go to the wire.

A long way to go. I have them as slight favourites still though the bookies seem to have us as slight favourites now.

I never thought we would be here. I think the gap was 10 at one point.

I know it’s likely that neither team will win all remaining games but it’s reached the point where I think each team has to assume the other will win the lot.

Not worried about our home games it’s Everton and Bournemouth away.

The two games Arsenal have against Atlético will hopefully take their toll. We know only too well what a horrible team they are to play and a couple of gruelling encounters would do us no harm at all.

The way those games impact on their fixtures:
Sat 25/4 Newcastle (home)
Wed 29/4 Atleti (away)
Sat 2/5 Fulham (home)
Tue 5/5 Atleti (home)
Sun 10/5 West Ham (away)

It could have worked out worse for them in that they’ve got two home games on either side of the trip to Madrid but those two legs of the SF could play a big part in the title race. If Arsenal go out of the CL, it’s further psychological pressure on them in addition to all the physical issues they’ll face.

Can someone explain how the palace and possibly Bournemouth (?) games will be rescheduled, i cant see how those games will fit in especially with Palace still in Europe.

Assuming we reach the cup final our run in will be something like

9th Brentford H
12th Bournemouth A
16th FA cup final
19th Palace H
24th Villa H

(Europa Final is 20th; Conference is 27th I think)

Outside the ground yesterday all the ole, ole…. So premature: I remember all to well a certain team at Anfield doing a lap of honour after beating us thinking they would be champions. What happened to the ‘one game at a time’?? Long, long way to go yet. Arse have the better opportunity to pile in the goals. I will sing along with everyone else at 6pm on the last day of the season but not beforehand unles we really have won it (which I doubt).

All we can definitely say is the Palace and (if necessary) Bournemouth games will be in the final two midweeks of the season (12-14 May & 19-21 May). Which would be first and which would be second is still up in the air.

It’s possible now that details of specific dates won’t come until after next weekend and it’s confirmed one way or the other whether or not the Bournemouth game has to move.
