Was a great buy at the time and was really good for those first few seasons. Don't think he'll return to that form though and has become error prone.

He's a squad player. And as a squad player he is useful due to his versatility and availability. Played RB vs Bayern and LB vs Real in the Treble season.

I mean, fans are going over the top with their treatment of Akanji. Last season he played through injury to help us finish in the top 5. Zero appreciation, exaggerated criticisms. It's embarrassing.

He's 4 years younger than VVD. Don't see any reason to think he's finished, provided he stays fit next season.

Cannot see that myself. They still have big issues like no striker and fragile mentality.

Then I see no reason why he can't regain form. He's not old, he's more athletic than most of the other defenders (Rodri described him as our physically strongest player, not just defender), can pass with both feet, etc. If Pep wants a small squad, he's ideal for a squad player.

I think fans worry that Pep loves him and will play him over more deserving players. That is, the worry concerns more Pep than Akanji...

I dont think we will but you never know, pep and the squad need to hit the ground running this season though i can't the see owners being as lenient with him this time round.

Well said though I'd say more than a squad player. One who competes for a regular starting spot.
 
Scousers all the way. The media do it for jota campaign will kick in in a few weeks and the prem and officials and the nation will get swept up in it
 
I think we’ll be much better than last season offensively and we’ll play more attractive football but defensive and keeper issues are still my concern. I don’t think we will win the league unless we can address those problems.

I think Rodri may have an indifferent season too. Coming back from an ACL injury and season out will be tough for him. Mentally as much as physically.

I could honestly see it going the other way. I watch a lot of Nottingham Panthers hockey and watched a lot of the season where Adam Johnson died. They were shells of themselves for months.

If I was a Liverpool fan, I wouldn't be angry with whatever happens this season. They have a massive tragedy to deal with and football just seems kind of futile when placed next to that.
 
I don't think so. I reckon it'll be somewhere in between last year and title level, maybe 80-85 points. 2nd behind liverpool imo. Reckon we'll mostly play well, but there'll be just a bit too much inconsistency and we'll get done in a couple of games where the attack isnt clicking.
