Will we win the league this season?

If Stones, Ake and Akanji have seasons like last year with fitness we might regret shipping out Reiss and Simpson Pusey.

Big pressure on Doku and Savinho, they have to deliver otherwise Bobb could jump ahead in the pecking order and I can see us being in the market for wide players next summer if they don’t.
Big season ahead for both Doku & Savio. Both have had plenty of time to settle in now so really need to see a step up in terms of productivity.

Maybe I’m bonkers but I some how have a feeling that the dippers may not be quite as good as they think they are.
Salah isn’t going to have the same year he had last year.
Wirtz, well he has a lot to live up to, I mean are they really that unbeatable. Their defence looks pretty weak.
Not sure the dippers squad is better than last season (although lawrenson says its there best squad ever ..knob), bought wirtz who was half decent in Germany, frimpong also half decent in Germany, kerkez half decent at Bournemouth and ekitike another half decent from germany, some keeper from Valencia, Freddie woodman!!!and some pleb from Salford, they've sold taa who was a twat but good, the little twat up front who got 20 goals a season, a good Irish goalie and the pony tail twat who never fulfilled his promise, all who knew the premier league!!!!

Its all about the backline for me. We are and have been for a while way too easy to get at, and that needs sorting if we are to seriously challenge. The last time I remeber feeling 100% confident in our defence is during the Stones / Dias partnership in covid times, they were fucking amazing together back then.

Can someone remind me what happened the season after Pep last finished 3rd?

We have signed some good players which I expect Pep to improve, to add to or replace what we already had. We have a number of players who didn't perform last season for various reasons (form , injury or overplayed) and this season I expect them to improve or drop down the pecking order as we have more competition now.

We will win the league with the Dippers, Arsenal, and Chelsea fighting for second.

People might call me biased but I think our squad is the best in the league

Ederson
Trafford

Lewis
Nunes
Akanji
Khusanov
Stones
Dias
Gvardiol
Ake
Ait nouri
Oreilly

Rodri
Gonzlez
Kovacic
Rejniders
Gundo
Bernie
Chèrki

Savio
Foden
Marmoush
Doku

Haaland
Bobb

Obviously 1 foreign player will have to leave but i don't see anyone having a deeper squad than that quality wise?

Bobb was the secret Haaland replacement all along.

Eh?!

Khusanov has already played meaningful games in his first few months for us against Chelsea, Newcastle, Liverpool (where he was our best player on the day), Tottenham (where he was our best player on the night), Forest and Brighton, as well as a full 90 in the Bernebeu against Madrid in the CL, keeping Vinicius Jr quiet.

He won our POTM in February by a landslide.

He looks like a fantastic prospect and is a great signing.

Bah also looks a good prospect and has been getting a lot of praise for his performances at Lens.

And Reis is a highly rated young centre back who Madrid, Arsenal and Brighton all wanted to sign.

Reis will never play another minute for City. Neither will Bah - although the Bah signing was always an investment to sell at some point.

As for Khusanov - despite the hype in February, Pep saw enough in those early games to know he is not for him.

Hardly played another minute during a period when we had a defensive injury crisis. Now we have our 5 first choice centre half’s fit again he will spent most weekends shopping. Feel sorry for the lad, but he is never gonna get a look in.

That money spent on those 3 players should have been spent on an elite centre half immediately ready to challenge for a place.

Tried to be far too clever in the market with hugely inflated gambles.

You obviously don't follow City enough, it wasn't Khusanov hardly played another minute. Khusanov didn't play a single minute after 9 games at which point we were on track for top 4 and injured players were coming back. Because if he had played another min, just 1, it would have cost us £10m in add on fees. Khusanov will be our first choice RB (or RCB depending on how you interpret Peps formation)

No,

We just have given ourselves more to do and the charges hanging over us are an issue (people will say no, but at best a distraction at worse involved in all planning).

I don’t feel we have brought top tier for awhile and it’s not saying it’s the be all and end all, but it’s true that we should have signed at least one off

Bellingham
Rice
Wirtz
Isak (assuming he goes)
Plus others

I’d say since Haaland, the signings have been a bit underwhelming.

Gvardiol probably being the only exception and Palmer/ Alvarez are 2 players who would really improve us.

RB is a real weakness.

We now have work to do and are building again, I don’t feel we are as far behind as some do, but we are not where we were.

Agree on the top tier signings, it’s always annoying and frustrating as for me, with the squad we have and Pep, if we had signed just one of any in your list I think we’d absolutely piss the league and would have done last season too.

We seem to try for bargains or prospects, which for much of the squad is ok, but to stay ahead of rivals and make things easier it would really help to sign a proper big name elite star every season or two. They’re expensive for a reason, and generally you get what you pay for.

We are being quietly written off by the media and the bookies as they wank themselves daft over the Scousers/Arseholes/Rags new signings. Rodri is back. Foden has looked sharp. Reijnders will be a hit. Let them doubt us!

I agree. I look at the other squads from the potential challengers and they are no better, if anything, not as strong, as bar the right back issue that is an exceptionally strong and more importantly deep squad. If we can find balance with our set up in the opening few months of the season, have a minimum of average luck injury wise, with a few of our big names having good seasons as well as a one or two of the new additions hitting the ground running, I think that would put us in a great position to do it.

The most important aspect will be striking a balance with the formation, personnel etc before it’s too late, but provided we find some rhythm/structure by the autumn we should still be in touching distance and then it would be game on with that squad.

Far, far too much negativity going into this season from a lot of blues.

A few proper players, there, but can you honestly pick a rock-solid defence out of them?

I'm not taking about those who look good at the other end of the pitch, but is there a back line with natural defending instincts?

Rodri aside (and that’s a BIG aside) the midfield isn’t much stronger than last season. Feel like we shopped at Sainsbury’s rather than Waitrose in the transfer window.

Reis will be superb for us in a few years. Khush has a good chance to make it here as well
