William Carvalho

Diawara plays DM and was linked to City more than a year ago before transferring to Napoli. I strongly recommend to watch this team as Sarri successfully plays the same brand of football as Guardiola without worldclass players. I'm not sure Diawara is as good as he appears to be, he hugely benefits from Sarri's tactics. Anyway, he would be a better choice than Carvalho IMO.

Kessie is a kind of b2b player, big and powerful but not very mobile. Plays in a 343 setup. I don't think we need a player of this type, very un-Pepish.

Good stuff andrew thanks. Yes, he definitely could qualify as a part of the YBR :). I prefer my DM's to have the physicality similar to bakayoko but I doubt that's the route Pep would take.

Thoughts on A. Garcia? We know that Pep probably doesn't rate kelechi....hoping that A. isn't in the same boat.

Young mids don't start early in Spain, so it's not a time to panic yet. For example, Thiago has made his debut under Pep at 18 yo but started to feature regularly only two years later. Madrid's M.Llorente (22, one of my dream signings) still plays on loan waiting for a chance in the first team. So, wait and we'll see, right now he's not ready from what I saw vs Huddersfield. Plays nice passes, but not really reliable as a wavebreaker. I wonder if it's possible to convert him into No8.

As for Pep's decisions on young players - they always seemed logical to me (unlike some of his poor transfers). If Aleix doesn't make it eventually, he has only himself (and his natural ability) to blame. If there's a person in the world that knows something about intelligent mids, it's Guardiola.

Edit: back to Carvalho - I don't like him, but if Pep sees something in him, I trust our manager. My only wish is if we make such 'risky' purchase, it's better to buy 2 competing alternatives. I heard rumours about Barkley and think that getting both Carvalho and Barkley could be a good solution for DM spot. Let's be realistic - we're not going to get anyone significantly better on the current market. Let dreams stay dreams.

Too slow for the Prem as a DM in Peps Pivot role- If along side a whippet like powerful DM then maybe.

I'm happy my boy was rewarded this year after getting robbed last season. Seems like most aren't too keen on carv or Kyle walker. Pep can't do a whole lot right ATM :/. I'd prefer a younger player like tolisso who fits into the Young Boy Revolution that I'm calling for :)

You have any other young dm that you rate other than weigl or tolisso?
I rate Marcos Llorente highly. Tolisso I consider a CM more than a DM. But a DM in the Busquet mould (I.e Wiegl, Javi, Garcia type) I rate Marcos Llorente highly. And his the one I'd target if it were up to me. I am also quite impressed with Goretzka's talent. Don't think he is a DM long term though. Thinks he moves further up the field soon. Also from what I've seen in Champions league and Europa of Youri Tielemans I believe he is coming on nicely.

Tielemans needs to be acquired before some midtable club gets him and slaps a 90 million dollar tag on him a year after getting him for 18. There is also Leandro Paredes at Roma. Solid all round DM with great technique.

Tolliso is more of a Vidal/Thiago all round complete CM who could also play DM as well as other positions.

But I'm not too worried about DM as a position. I think fullback, Keeper and competition up front is more important.

Roma fans said they wouldn't mind selling him, he's not that good defensively but his passing is top notch

This lad seems to get linked with us on a weekly basis recently.

Looks like a real potential signing this.
