William Carvalho

Someone might understand this more than I do. But is it possible that the role of pivot is more about being the player that others players move around - rather than, say, a defensive midfielder who runs around doing lots of defending. In this way, the lack of mobility is less important in the role of pivot as they are more there to 'organise' the more
mobile players around them in both defence and attack?
In which case, isn't Yaya the better option?

His or her comments made me instantly think of Sergio Busquets in Pep's system. Very rarely goes forwards or gets goals, but his positioning, passing, and awareness are what sets him apart. I'll admit Carvalho would be a bit underwhelming for me in comparison to Fabinho but if we can't land Fab then I trust Pep and will give Carvalho the opportunity to win me over.

You could be describing Yaya, who no longer has the pace. I think pace is so important in football and I can picture Carvalho being left stranded as Yaya often is. With Yaya as a tutor I can see his general play improving but his pace probably will not. The video was underwhelming, as you say. Under little pressure, all right foot and few tackles (if tackles matter!)

Surely Toni Kroos is the player we should be signing. Make him and Real an offer they can't refuse.

Ederson, Walker, Mendy, Kroos and Bernardo Silva and we would be ready to go. No need for expensive vanity projects like Neymar, Mbappe.

I really don't rate this guy and we've already been burnt a few times brining players in from Portugal who just don't cut it in the Prem. We really do need a top DM like Weigl or Verratti as concerned about Yaya and Fernandinho getting old and not as quick and Delph not being up to the job. I'd rather see Pep work with a player like Oxlade-Chamberlain who he could probably convert. Carvalho is too slow and not great technically - nothing like Yaya either now or in the past.

An offer Madrid 'cannot refuse' won't be too far off Mbappe's fee. Maybe could go higher.

People really need to stop suggesting Kroos as a defensive midfielder, he plays in the Silva position, he's even worse defensively than Yaya.

I remember watching him and Bernardo Silva for Portugal U21s 2 years ago and the two of them pretty much ran the game vs England.

He'd definitely fit into our style of play and be a useful option for big games - also a far superior option to Fernando for shoring up games should we be winning by a slender margin - can't see him pulling up any trees though. Depends on the price I suppose.

Then again could be our Wanyama?

Fabregas. Alonso. Barry.

All fantastic premier league midifelders who had no pace.

Pace isn't important in that position.
