William Carvalho

Yet none of them are the type of player that Pep wants as a pivot. They would all be bad at trying to play out of the back and away from pressure. If we used one of those players then we would have to long ball it which we don't.

So who does Pep want as pivot?

Fabinho and Carvalho couldnt be any different.

We'll have to see and I could be wrong, but if I had to guess it would be someone more like Carvalho over Fabinho. His quality on the ball is the best of the bunch. Currently we only have Yaya who can play that roll IMO. When our keeper is playing out from the back from a goal kick he looks to either one of the 2 CB's or the pivot to pass it to. When it's passed to Yaya you can almost always be sure he'll make the right pass to play out from that pressure. Carvalho looks similarly as good. I guess we'll see if Pep deems him good enough. When we played Dihno in the pivot he gave the ball away too much and Pep started to play Yaya more. Against tougher sides like Spurs I can see us playing 2 in the midfield instead, but we'd still need someone like Yaya to play out from the back. The other could be more of a DM like Dihno or Fabinho type. However like I said for me we only have Yaya who can currently play the pivot. I think we need another since he's getting older and won't be able to play twice a week the whole season.

He does seem somewhat like Wanyama but with a greater range of passing. His first touch is amazing.

Must admit the player he reminds me of most is Huddleston and I don't mean that as a criticism.

The doubts over him playing the pivot role due to lack of mobility and pave are kinda a mute point considering both Pirlo and Alonso (best in slot) had neither of those attributes.

72.3% of his passes are forward with an overall 88% pass accuracy. That's very impressive considering, 60.7% of Yaya's passes are forward and he has a passing accuracy of 90%

Has a very good long ball accuracy too though he does have 6'5 Bas Dost to aim at

Mainly hits it long to Gelson Martins out on the right wing tbh, not a lot of balls in the air straight down the middle. Sporting get it wide, whip balls into the box for Dost to head in, rinse and repeat
