Willy has to play in the Final

Joes's been great at his basic keeping duties but Pep will want to ensure Joe improves at marshalling the defence.
Two goals conceded from set pieces at the near post vs Leicester says a lot.

IMHO this compares with the shambolic wall that Willy "set up" versus Chelski where the chavs signalled where they were going to hit the ball.

Both keepers made mistakes in these games Sunday league sides would be embarrassed about!
It's funny though, Joe seemed reasonable at "marshalling his defence" when he had a manager who could organise a defence properly.

Yes and the team selection and tactics in the home defeat versus Liverpool were a shambles.

We had been defending with a player on the near post before so it is a bit of a mystery was this was changes against Leicester though!

Both keepers look considerably better when Kompany is playing in front of them. However there is no question that Joe is the better keeper.

He got his angles wrong for that goal and his reaction time was appalling. The free kick was an embarrassment for a proffesional goalkeeper and the one that went through him I'd have expected any goalkeeper who's older than 14 to keep it out. The first wasn't really down to him and the other one wasn't a mistake, but again his angles could and should have been better, he made the goal bigger instead of smaller.
He made a great save when it was fired at him in the first half and he deserves credit for the penalty.
Every other aspect of his game was severely lacking on Sunday.
It was a poor penalty from Oscar tbf.

The way I feel at the moment, I think the whole keeper issue for Sunday is a bit of a red herring. I am honestly expecting us to stroll around for 90 minutes while they work their balls off and get in our faces. We will quite probably have Willy in goals, Demichelis at centre back and Yaya in a two in midfield as he tries to give his favourites one last hurrah before they all fuck off in the summer. The difference between WIlly playing and Joe playing is probably just the scale of the defeat rather than winning the trophy or not. I desperately hope to be proved wrong but I am going down there expecting precisely nowt.

Speak for yourself when you say that "morale" dropped when Hart was picked for that game. Not where I was it didn't. It increased if anything. And you've no idea what the dressing room thought about it so please don't claim you do.

I think we can take an educated guess at what dressing room morale was like in 2013 given Zaba's comments in the week prior to the final where he said the team were desperate to win the trophy for Costel. I don't think Costel actually made his league debut until the following season having been with us for 2 years at that stage. I think it put the tin hat on the day after the Mancini revelation the night before.

Different situation with Willy though and it shouldn't be used to justify his selection.

You haven't got the team's best interests at heart if You want Willy to start. There's not one good footballing reason to put him in ahead of Joe and I can't remember us getting to the point where we can afford to go into a final and take such needless risks.
The difference between the two is so vast, I can only think you'd have to be a Liverpool fan to go with Flappy hands.

Caballero will more than likely not be here next season.

Pellegrini will definitely not be here next season so any promises made don't particularly matter.

Caballero is out of form.

Caballero shouldn't play in the Final.

I can't see how it is any more complicated than that. A player is out of form so he should be dropped.

And what do you think are the chances of this happening? The manager might want to take Willy wherever he goes next so the promise might matter to him.

Absolutely zero. He'll play him.

To be honest my faith in Pellegrini is at an all time low so I'm not exactly the best person to ask about this.

I wouldn't trust him to order my sandwich right at the moment. That Chelsea lineup really pissed me off.

NO hope for league cup trophy .... ! :(

Is there a realistic chance that somebody above Pellegrini could tell him to pick Hart? Surely the powers that be will want a trophy and he is off at the end of the season anyway so pick the team for him

Milner delivers such a flat ball, we are asking for trouble from set pieces.

Hart nearly always makes an attempt to punch clear.

Regardless of his success rate, Caballero is a typical continental keeper and always remains rooted to his line, he just doesn't have the stature or physicality.

Liverpool can have players running right flash across his sight lines, and our defenders can't afford to be defending so deep.

The thought of Coutinho getting free-kicks in the central positions also gives me nightmares re Willy.

In saying that, Hart doesn't have the best record against him from long range, either.

Would be Hart for me.

Didn't make much difference in November. Suffice to say, if we play a midfield 2 with Yaya and MDM and Kolarov both play, then Willy and Joe could both play, and it won't help!
