It's a different situation Tim. I think most of us at Wembley in 2013 were shocked and disappointed when Joe appeared in the starting XI after Costel had played every round and been superb in the semi against Chelsea. Although there was a small improvement in quality in picking Joe it was outweighed as you say by the drop in morale in both fans and players. It just didn't feel right.
This time nobody trusts Willy, fans or players. I'm guessing even Pellegrini doesn't trust him but will probably pick him anyway (for the sake of the 35,000 travelling fans he absolutely shouldn't). He did play well against Everton but Sunday was one of the worst goalkeeping displays I've ever witnessed from a City keeper and we've had a few dummies over the years. If he isn't dropped and he costs us the game I fear things could turn very ugly for "The Charming Man" in his final few weeks in Manchester. This match psychologically could make or break our season. We must give it our best shot. Willy doesn't deserve a starting place just because he is "the cup goalkeeper". That's just ridiculous.
Describing Hart being a "small improvement in quality" over Pantilimon is akin to describing Aguero as "a small improvement in quality" over Gerry Creaney.
Speak for yourself when you say that "morale" dropped when Hart was picked for that game. Not where I was it didn't. It increased if anything. And you've no idea what the dressing room thought about it so please don't claim you do.
Apart from that, good post!
