Wimbledon 2023 | Alcaraz beats Djokovic in the final

The good old LTA - one of biggest tournament and membership revenues in World Tennis - a complete jobs for the yes men boys monopoly - produced nobody ever. (Perhaps the Raduccannu fluke if you're being generous).

Murray - his mum and Spanish training facilities.
Henman - self / parent funded.
The LTA like to come in later and pretend they've had some input.

We are very good at producing bang average tennis players who don’t really care if they win or lose.

Think that’s a bit harsh. Boulter is bang average at the moment. But I’ve seen no evidence that she isn’t extremely hard working and striving to be as good as she can be.

Not many players in the world would have been able to live with Rybakina last night. However much they cared.

This 16 year old Russian girl looks a good player, only turned 16 a couple of month ago too

She looks to have everything needed to become a superstar of the game.
She’s already beat a grand slam champ in the second round as well.
Yeah she looks very good indeed.

Let's hope tennis doesn't go the way of the WBC in boxing who are blocking Russian fighters like Bivol from being able to fight for their belt just because of their nationality. Disgraceful in my opinion, you can't penalise athletes just because of where they were born.

Thankfully Tennis seems to be ok with them completing as long as there's no flag on show anywhere.

It's a sport that gets let off quite a bit in the UK for some reason. Any other sport gets pummeled if the country doesn't deliver success. Think Ewan Murray had it right, not necessarily about golf but the excessive fawning over tennis players who are well remunerated but deliver nothing.

Fair point, although you can apply that to other sports. The UK has multiple boxing world champions but that's not acknowledged much by BBC.

But then BBC don't really broadcast golf do they? they don't exclusively broadcast much sport. Wimbledon being their main thing they seem to have exclusive rights to. So it's only normal they're going to hype their own product.

Besides, i think they know the English are completely shite at tennis, so they try to be cheerleaders as much as possible to spur on the underdogs or create a story. I think the novelty factor of an English tennis player winning a few games is exciting to them. Everyone likes an underdog.
