Wimbledon 2023 | Alcaraz beats Djokovic in the final

I do not care what others say but for me Tennis players are far and away the fittest people in sport.

Four hour of intensive effort and the match is nowhere near over yet.

.... all this on the back of having palkyed a semi final possibly of equal duration less than 48 hours ago, unbelievable.

Got to be the fittest, physically and psychologically. And footlaers whinge about playing 90 minutes in a team game on a Sunday and a Tuesday Pahhh.

I doth my cap.

I agree

Makes it more the frustrating that people would rather focus on the personality of a Tennis player and think it’s compulsory to say whether you like them or not.

Yeah I think I saw some research with pretty much confirmed Tennis and boxing over 12 Rounds being the fittest along with marathon runners. boxing is 36 minutes over 12 rounds but if anyone's ever tried three minutes on a punching bag, you understand stand how exhausting it is, plus you're getting hurt and hit at the same time and your body busted up. I mean you see how many boxers are a shell of themselves by the time their career is over. I can't remember where I read it but the research apparently showed them three to be the toughest sports physically, for different reasons.

Tennis is a fascinating sport though when you get a game like this because you can really see the ups and downs and momentum shifts over the course of a few hours. Djokovic looked like he could be down and out an hour ago but all those years of experience builds up insane focus over a long game.

Up there with Pro Cyclists no doubt but the cyclists just edge it for me.
I agree but I think what edges this toward Tennis players for me is.... they have nowhere to hide, they are 100% in the spotlight and every move is judged in the moment (like boxwe except for much longer and of course not getting physically pummelled).... unlike mid field plaers who can take a five minute break by stepping out of the action.

But I understand the other nominated...

If it goes to a fifth which is looking likely I will not worry who wins, just feel sorry for the loser.

I think this the moment that the crown will be handed over, even if Djorkovic wins.

Yeah whatever happens here, Alcaraz looks like he's going to be the man in the next era. Obviously other players will come along and win major tournaments too because you're not going to win them all the time, but from the young players I've seen, it looks likes he's on another level.

But you never know, there could be someone just a few years behind him even better, but as it stands, it looks like he's going to be around having success for a good while.

More than 23 grand slams is a real possibility, given how hard it’s been for Djokovic with Federer and Nadal around

Just read that Alcaraz has a higher percentage of deciding set wins in his career than Djokovic. Including two out of two at Wimbledon. Does he have the mental strength to see this one out, though? I don't think Djokovic will be lacking on that score. He just never gives up.
