The other day in the pub, I was asked by a RAG why the flags of the boat on the City emblem were flying in different directions? I was caught offguard, I have to admit. Off the hoof, I said that it was a picture and not really a boat in the sea, as in real life, trying to demean the toe rag. But he kept on badgering me about it.

Please, please tell me he was just pissed and trying to wind me up. Or is this some RAG joke. Never heard it before, that's all I can say.

Advice/help please?

1. Why would a rag be looking that closely at the clipper? Did he expect to find something? Or is he just obsessed?
2. Is he suggesting the artist (whomever they be, arrrrr, Jim lad) were encoding a (subliminal) message or were prescient?
3. If you look at renderings of ships of sail (whatever the century) you'll often see penants and jacks flying in directions contrary to movement / one another / wind. I think it's just a matter of style.

No, I didn't have a shirt on and there were no reasons, apart from talking about footy. He had it stored in his head. Just thought it might have been a rag joke that I hadn't heard about. Probably just pissed and saves it up for a City supporter I guess.
