In my last year of high school (so, 09-10) I got a little too close with a wonderful friend of mine, and she was Lithuanian/Lebanese.
Only it was one those situations where nothing could be started up: I was already in a rather possessive long-term relationship, she was moving away in the August of 2010 and she was reeling from a fairly nasty break up (which actually resulted in the person she split up with despising me because I was their match-maker).
Only, just before the turn of the year from 2009 to 2010, we spent a long day together. Just walking around, shopping, meeting up with other friends. My ex knew about this and made the day hell for me, pretending she was alone and drunk with some guy who was over at her house with her, all to try and make me upset. It worked.
We ended up going back to my friend's house and things went very quiet. She calmed me down about my ex and took care of me, displaying a sort of care that I'd never really felt from my ex - but before the crucial moment came, where I could have left my poisonous relationship 18 months early for someone else, I backed out and remained faithful. I called my dad, he took me home. I then spent 18 months more in that poisonous, long-distance relationship and ended up getting my fucking heart broken.
I would say that backing out of that night was something I regret, but I know I wouldn't be with the person I'm with now - so for that I'm thankful. It's funny really, I told the girl I'm with now about all of this and she told me the same thing: "You should have gone for it." But hey, you win some...
