Cancelo and Stones are playing in deep midfield with Rodri, as our “full backs” always do. Cancelo is the best doing what he does in left midfield in the league. Stones has played there about a dozen times now under Pep and done well most of the time (Leeds at home, in the second half he was the best player on the pitch), he was a bit patchy on Wednesday but scored a screamer so gets another go.

Don’t disagree with your analysis, but it does make me ask why we’re putting a central defender to play predominantly in midfield.

Stones has had 2.1111 good games at right back; Leeds, Brentford and Dortmund. (He did ok against Madrid before he went off too).

Hopefully he improves going forwards as he gains more experience of playing the role though.

Of course it is.

Wolves-West Brom and Brum-Villa might be the big derby rivalries but all the other W.Midlands fans hate Villa and don’t like each other.
 
Don't like Stones at right-back. Alvarez and Gomez should be starting more. Hate 12.30 KOs.

Not sure about that. Stones is probably our best centre back, he’s just pretty good in midfield n’all while Walker is out it’s good to get Akanji up to speed and play Stones there. There were a couple of moments on Wednesday where Anakji looked a bit suspect.
