Wolves (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

At the end of the first half I thought we were starting to look really good. Then the team that came out in the second half had lost all that intensity. Its the intensity that's not there in general. Only comes in spells.

Yeh just watched it back. To describe that as a superb crisp ball is a touch elaborate. It’s a pass that any premier league player worth his salt should make.
Sorry. Just trying to be a bit more positive than the tsunami of miserable cunts on here. In all reality Phil’s in terrible form. He was great first part of the season. I recon it’s right to drop him but the bollox written on here about him is rag’ish. I remember the rag fans turning on Giggs after a bad run and thought they were scum. Turned out he was a **** but that’s beside the point ;)

I recon they were told to ease off whilst at 2-0 and try and coast through - which in fairness worked

Natural position? Take a look at a 100m race for example - the athletes arms pump up and down not out wide. The last timer Shearer ran like that is when he was 8 years old, pretending to be a plane.

Also if you look closer you can detect a forward movement towards the ball. Shearer is just being obtuse.
No more than you are, fatty.

For me watching Foden, a big part of it is role and load. Early on he was central, trusted, and playing with freedom, arriving late in the box and combining quickly. As the season’s gone on, and injuries to other key players have grown, he’s been moved around more, asked to hold width or do more build up play, and he’s clearly been carrying mental and physical fatigue after a very intense year. His game relies on sharpness and timing, when that drops even slightly, he looks quieter without necessarily playing badly. Breaking his hand in the derby hasn't helped either

haaland hardly touches ball over 90 minutes never mind when weve dug in and he comes on for 20 minutes
With Haaland, our chance creation has become slower and more controlled, with fewer early balls, fewer transitions, and more opponents sitting deep specifically to cut off his runs. With no De Bruyne consistently threading passes early, Haaland has become easier to manage, and if he’s even a fraction off physically or confidence-wise, defenders sense it. He’s also been double- and triple-marked far more than early season, and wolves did the same when he came on

There’s also a wider factor, we tend to manage form across a season. Early intensity drops, tactical caution increases, and players peak later. It looks worse because both Foden and Haaland are so visible when they’re flying.

The next four matches will have a major influence on how three different competitions sort out this season. Game management seemed to be the priority. Not pretty but bigger fish to fry starting with a needed big win Wednesday.

Well it’s a physical sport. David Silva could also be called a lightweight but you never saw him get bullied. Likewise Nasri.
David Silva was small but very solid, strong with a low centre of gravity and difficult to knock off the ball.
Nothing like Phil or Rico.

It wasn't a thrilling game but I'm surprised at the level of negativity on here tbh. Game was won after six minutes, really, we created some decent chances (Semenyo off the bar, Cherki skying it) and played some tidy football. New signings are hitting the ground running, we've got some decent talent coming back into the team, and everything is still to play for. That box midfield Pep settled on last year doesn't create thrilling football, but it's stubborn and ultimately was pretty successful. If it can get us through this busy, difficult period to the spring with us still in everything then I'll take it.

I disagree. Phil and Rico are both solid (especially Rico) and both have the low centre of gravity you mentioned.

I didn't watch the match, but from what I've just seen from some highlights...

I don't understand why we drop Haaland, and then start playing to his strengths - putting crosses into the box, and playing balls forward.

When he's on the pitch we f**k about with passing it sideways along the edge of the box over-and-over, while he's stood in the box waiting for the ball. He gets dropped, and though it looks like Marmoush played well, it is just going to add fuel to the fire of the Haaland haters in the media/other teams fans! He's the best Number 9 in the world, but when he is on the pitch we don't utilise him.

One of the stats that almost never gets mentioned, yes we were better than Wolves, who we beat easily at the start of the season, is how far we ran, pretty sure it was 56 KLM in the first half, they ran 52 we ended up with 104, which shows how our dominance faded, but also where we need to improve the squad, not insulting our substitutions, just saying we are allowed 5 subs, and next season we should use them all.
Might be wrong but i think we hold the record at this 120 in a match

They might have similar physical attributes but they don’t have the tenacity or resilience of David. Same as Kun Aguero who never gave enough up and who battled as hard as anyone. Same as Carlos Tevez.
All a part of that team being so magnificent
