Wolves (H) Post-Match Thread

A normal coach would have signed a CB, but Pep is no normal coach. He innovates and will do it his way. However, that said, FFP is the reason given for no CB signing. And don't forget that there aren't too many CBs out there who play the Pep way. Much as it annoys me to say so, Maguire would have suited us far more than he suits Manure.

Not sure FFP is the reason. For me we signed a right back when we didn’t really need one.

David and Gundo can't play in the same midfield together. Need a KDB or Bernardo with one or the other to press and bring active pressing and legs, maybe even Foden since I think he offers more of a direct offensive threat than either Dave or Gundo. Angelino should've started. Not great defensively but would've definitely offered more offensively. It's time to give Foden and/or Garcia some run tbh.

Battle fatigue is an actual condition. The team has been in battles for too long, which impedes the production of adrenaline which is a crucial element of high performance. The only cure is rest and recuperation; the production of adrenaline is involuntary, triggered by danger/stress, and is well-researched by various military bodies. The performance on Sunday was similar to the one when the coach was trashed, flat and slow, a result of post-trauma depression, another well understood syndrome....
In forum-speak....."they were all shit, lazy and couldn't be arsed" :)

another reason you rotate and put amped up young people out there.

The reason city are giving teams so many chances, is Rodrigo. He's a good player, but he doesn't protect the midfield and defence like fern, in that position. Got to get fern back in midfield, until Rodrigo is up to speed. Let's see what Garcia, Belli's or stones can do.

people losing is ok

yes everybody got there views on what went wrong and message boards are a great way to chew the fat, but come on it could be 1999 or worst
we have to take losing a couple of games now and then, and with the past 10 years who can blame anybody at manchester city, and city & pep record over the last 2 seasons is from another world, but we need grounding and back to earth to refuel, also injuries have been cruel and maybe lady luck or sod's law but city and pep never use that as a excuse

anybody questioning pep needs to wobble their head we just won back to back title's 100 points and 98 and 3 trophies last season and community shield again

Good points which many have commented on.

Let's hope that Pep can see the issue and does something about it. I personally never feel happy with Gundogan and DS together in the midfield roles as there is never enough energy in the midfield.

Foden must get his chance soon .

Spot on and I also feel that success has had an adverse impact on some fans as that is there expectation now and if we fall off it, there is outrage and someone needs to be sacked/we fucked up not replacing x, y or z.

I doubt that many are having a pop at Pep, it's the frustration from seeing the team perform badly , as in Norwich and Wolves. There are certainly grounds for criticising the pairing of Gundogan and DS perhaps because we generally lack energy when they are paired together , and Ota is having a personal mare which is clear to see. Maybe it is time for Pep to use the likes of Foden , Garcia , Angelino to shake things up a bit ?

The injury situation is clearly having a big impact and serious errors from the likes of Ota are helping to add to the frustration . I can accept a defeat if we have played well , but the nature of the defeats at Norwich and Wolves were as a result of collective team failure , which we are no longer used to experiencing .

He's not as good yet, as fern in that position especially when you have Silva and gundo in the mf with him.
He's not up to speed with the pace of the prem league yet.

I take it your expectation is that we can get a Fern like for like replacement. I think you will have a long wait if so and imo, trying to compare different players is futile.

I’ve been very impressed with him so far and he has settled in more quickly than I anticipated. However, I do not think he had a good game on Sunday. (Who did?) He did some good things during the match but overall was well below the high level he had maintained until the Wolves game. His passing under pressure was rushed and sloppy, he was found out for pace on occasions, and at the end, when we were on the break, he needlessly lost the ball by delaying an otherwise easy pass (he was not fouled), an error which contributed to their killer second, though Otamendi’s crass attempt at a tackle earns him, rightfully, the main villain’s part. He’s young, very talented and will continue to learn and develop but he’s not a yet a replacement for Fernandinho in that ‘protective’ role.

The real surprise for me was the continual aimless floated crosses into the box. That's just not how we play and makes me think it was more a case of a really, really bad day at the office. The last time I remember getting so frustrated at endless high crosses into the box was Palace at home last season and we all know what happened then.

Injuries are really hurting us, that much is clear. Fern is not a centre half and Otamendi simply isn't good enough. That ridiculous dive-in is nothing new and is just how he is. Walker going off ill was bad luck because he's our paciest defender and would have been better placed to help us when they were on the break.

We're probably going to need to beat the scousers home and away to retain our title. If they carry on with their lack of injuries and incredible luck we've got no chance, but it's early days and let's hope we get our wobble out of the way early and get our key players back at the right time. Going to Anfield in a month with the current defence is incredibly worrying though I have to admit.

missing the point matey

sometimes its ok to lose because you can not keep winning, also the season is long and we have the league cup champions league FA cup and we have been hit with injuries to key players early doors, am not having a go at peoples views their are just as valuable as any, but manchester city can not keep winning and picking up silverware every season

pep is the greatest manager in world football and we are truly lucky and blessed to have him as our manager and you have to hold your tongue sometimes, painful as it is to lose a game or 2 you know the bigger picture is still bright and not finished, just hold on people smile and think we could be united

I think Pep talked about not being able to afford a CB - meaning FFP. To me, it looks like Cancelo was signed as a utility player (can play in both FB positions and midfield) and also to put pressure on others - FBs especially. He's a classy player, not known for pace but great technical ability. In other words, Kyle has to be at his very best or Cancelo comes in. Cancelo looks like an upgrade on Danilo - who I thought was decent.

Watch the Norwich game again. Same that day too. Too many crosses, not enough cutting edge.

I don’t know how true this is but I’ve heard from a very well connected source that Pep hasn’t been overly thrilled with his efforts in training so far, hence the reason he isn’t getting much game time. Don’t shoot the messenger but that’s what I’ve heard and the source is a good one.
