Wolves (H) Post Match Thread

Flagged Laporte after it crossed the line, Gabby's second was flagged after it hit the net. Given that we are talking mm wheter or not it was on or off there is no way either liner could have known for sure. They have been told not to flag and let VAR which checks every goal sort out which begs the question why are they doing it as it maters not a jot. If Eric was offside which I don't think he was it was by less than a cm so the liner flagging makes no sense as in real time he just wouldn't have a clue so they are either guessing and VAR tries to make it look like the liner was correct or there is something else going on. This is why refs need miking up as in rugby so that we can hear what is being said.
Not to bothered if they flag once the ball is dead. VAR should sort it out should they ever sort out the video frame at which the passing/heading motion begins. They get this wrong all the time and both our goals should have been allowed if they had got this right.

From Sadcafe....

At least it isn't Liverpool walking the league again, I suppose.

Didn't she do the same at WBA for Cancelo's goal? she needs to get back in the kitchen.

The margin of error should be used. For a start there aren’t enough frames per second taken by the camera to give the accuracy of millimetres that they are using at the moment. That’s before you even consider margins of error in the timing of the pass. The people who develop this technology know this. Unbelievable that this isn’t taken into consideration in the decisions.
Well said - I was thinking the same thing. I've read before that the ball can be in contact with the foot for between 2-3 frames, so it also comes down to which frame they use when making these offside calls.

It's judged by the moment the ball first touches the boot or head.

I’ve just watched the game again and was struck with the sheer intensity and will to win in that 20 minute period between us going level and going back to 2-1. We had created 4 clear cut chances within 4 minutes and were utterly relentless until it came. That’s a new side to City. Kompany once criticised the team for not recovering well from a moment of adversity. That’s long gone.

seemed a bit rusty and lacked rhythm but still had his moments
Not me. He's not back to his brilliant best yet, but the signs are there. He's pressing well. Some of his passes were sublime. He keeps the ball well. I always feel more relaxed when he's in front of our defenders. His shooting is a bit off but he still nearly scored having beaten the defender with ease. I saw a comment that he was running out of steam in the last 20 minutes, but his run into the corner was instrumental to the 4th goal & according to the stats they showed during the game, he'd covered more ground than anyone else on the pitch bar one. The more he plays, the better he'll get.

Kenny was a little before my time mate so can't really comnent on his situation. I am not surprised though. We always seem to have a whipping boy.

Recently it seems to have been Gundogan. I remember posting about Gundogan when his abuse was at its height, that the only reason people were giving him grief was vecause he was not as good as David or KDB. He was still a million miles better than most other midfielders in the league. Low and behold, David moves away and Gundogan thrives, the abuse stops. People just want a scapegoat and I find it rather sad.
With Ilkay, it was just keyboard warriors - nothing in the stadium apart from lone voices here and there. With Kenny Clements, I'm sure he had a behind the scenes job at City - brought up as a United fan but became a blue. Story somewhere about him being with United fans at a derby and celebrating when we scored. But he got abused by large numbers of fans after years of no abuse. He turned it round though.

That offside decision against LaPorte is a joke, however precisely it has been measured. Indeed measuring offside to that level of precision is the primary joke. In the first instance, decision making by officials needs to be based on something that is possible in real time with the naked eye so that VAR is truly dealing with clear and obvious errors. I'd still bin VAR.
One thing that struck me was where they drew the line, I thought it would be from his shoulder because you can score a goal with your shoulder. It seemed to be from the end of his shirt sleeve, so can you score a goal with the bit of your arm that is sleeved?
