Wolves PL (A) | Post Match Discussion

Piss poor all over the pitch. Poor defensively, for both goals. Ake was given a real run around.
Midfield no control when needed, too hurried and lost possession due to bad passes far too often. Foden, Alvarez and Haaland were invisible, great free kick from Alvarez but did little else. Foden seemed half hearted today, very timid.

The stats say we had 23 attempts and 70% possession, compared to Wolves 3 attempts and 30% possession… yet it seemed like Wolves created the better chances and caused us many problems.

I didn’t understand the set up today with Nunes and Kovacic as holding midfielders. Playing Nunes was always going to fire up their fans and this transferred to their players. They just seemed more determined than us.
I felt our performance was too passive, or lazy. We are missing Kev’s creativity badly, Rodri’s control and Bernardo’s energy and drive and of course Stones’ composure.

We need to sort things out quickly, two huge games coming up.

That's my point. It wasn't the loss so much, it's the hopeless way we lost.

We've previously hit sticky patches, but looking at our squad we knew we had the wherewithal to get back on track.

Right now, we need our best back, because the backup options just don't compare.
I think that when we get beat, it's when we're absolutely awful.

I can't remember the last game we lost where we didn't really deserve to (United at OT?), but we do tend to stink the place out when we get beat.

Luckily doesn't happen too often and hopefully we can put this one behind us next week with a decent result.

68% possession, 23 shots, 8 on target and we where shit according to some on here?

Most on here haven’t got a fucking clue.

Well played ref.
Exactly the reason this is my first first foray into here this season, and probably my last for some time.

Unlucky today, fluke goal which was just a hopeful punt across the box that you see 50 times a month that usually goes nowhere. I was going to say their only chance of the first half, but it wasn't even that. An element of luck with their second, it just fell in the right place at the right time and the scorer should have been sent off at HT anyway. Apart from that it was 11 man defence for most of the match, which is always going to be tough to break down whatever team we're playing. Every season one or two get away with it, most don't.

No worries at all here, we're not robots and can't be at 100% all the time, especially with key players out, but sad that the doom and gloom merchants can't seem to understand that, and disgusted that the team don't get the credit after all they've done for us.

Some of this shower should have been here 30 years ago, then they would have something to whine about.

How many years have we been pleading for a top-level fast mobile left-back?

No team can easily cope with losing KDB stones Bernardo. Add to that that in reality the lads we’ve bought are not (yet) at the level of those we’ve sold in Laporte Gundo and Mahrez.

Grealish needs to hit form quick and we need Bernardo desperately next week as a minimum

I guess you must have watched a different match. Wolves had the better chances? What chances?

Poor but we will pick ourselves up and go again.

The time wasting and faking injury is something I hate and the ref this season are supposed to add on the correct time which does not seem to be happening consistently surprise surprise.

Way below our normal standards. The new players didn’t do themselves any justice today and have a long way to go if they are going to reach the levels of their predecessors.

Injuries and suspension is also a factor.

Overall I see a team not doing enough. Losing out on most duels. The amount of time we either lost the ball or played a shit pass was all to common.

Annoying but trying to keep perspective. Still a good start to the season. Lots of room for improvement.

Don’t see why Ake was left alone with Neto. Changes should have been made to stop the danger. Shit day all round.
On present form, we'd have been better bringing on Grealish for Nunes & playing him inside, or even taking off Haaland & gone with:

Doku-------Alvarez-------Bobb
---------------Foden-----------------
-------Kovacic-------Nunes/Grealish
Gvardiol----Dias----Akanji----Walker

The difference in danger between Jack & Doku is stark, & playing Walker further forward evidently wasn't working today.

At least with the above formation, we'd have pace in wide attack & wide defence, & would've stifled the midfield & dealt properly with Neto who was a major pain in the arse & seriously troubled Aké all game.
