To be fair, the heartbeat of our side has always been our central midfield under Pep. You stop that and you stop City.
We can probably cope with losing 2 out of KDB, Rodri and Bernardo, but not losing all three. To miss those three players at the same time is just unfortunate.
That said, I find it staggering that Foden isn’t the first name in the middle of the park at the moment.
Today wasn't a day to play two forwards. It just wasn't working.
We should've rested one from Haaland/Alvarez & stiffened up the midfield in the absence of Rodri, Bernardo & KDB.
Surely this would've been better?
Doku-------Alvarez-------Bobb
-----------------Foden---------------
-------Kovacic-------Nunes/Grealish----
Dawson was roughing up Haaland & barely gave him a sniff. Haaland's no Kane who can drop deep into a No.10 role to stifle the opposition knowing we've got the pace & trickery of Doku & Bobb out wide & the creativity of Foden behind to unlock deep lying defences.
With Kovacic & Nunes/Grealish in behind, we'd have stifled the midfield today & not given them a sniff, whilst still posing a major threat.
Pep probably wouldn't have started like this, but the option was there to change to this line up, especially after we drew level.
It was a poor day all round from managerial decisions to player performances.
Today felt like Newcastle away last season who were fired up after the Almiron comments by Grealish. Nunes gave Wolves fans the same gumption.
