I don't believe what i just read, our mens teams are mostly midgets so let's make the pitch smaller for them ehPlease don’t try and make a sexist thing out of this, but I have to say the women’s game would benefit from slightly smaller pitches and goals. I know City’s men’s team are on the small side, but every time I watch the women the pitch seems so big, the goals seem huge, the goalies so small. However, the skill levels have risen dramatically over the last decade or so. Brilliant save by City’s keeper just now, for example. It just feels like they have to put in ten percent more effort to get from one end of the pitch to the other, and the goalies have to leap twice as far, simply because women tend to be a bit smaller than men. Anyway, let’s hope City win, if only to see if the commentators credit Manchester United with the legendary “unbeatables” tag.

Why a smaller pitch? the women are athletes they don't need a smaller pitchIt’s different. People who keep making comparisons to the men’s game are heading up a dead end. Enjoy it as it’s own game. A smaller pitch might be an idea, but as I say, I’ve found the comparison game gets you nowhere.
Our quality should shine through here over the course of the full match
29 mins: Magnificent save! And the game’s best move by a mile: Simon nicks the ball on the right, fires off a one-two and whips in an inch-perfect cross that Jane Ross meets with a downwards header. It hits the ground, and looks a certain goal – but Bardsley reacts in the blink of an eye to claws it off the line in the Gordon Banks-to-Pele style. Top quality all round.
The Grauniad journo enjoyed the save.
