We've finally got an update on the injury to Alex Greenwood. Not as bad as we were probably thinking.

Alex Greenwood MCL injury news

"Manchester City can confirm that Alex Greenwood has had successful surgery on a Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) injury."

According to Google: If you have a mild sprain, your MCL will usually recover after about 2 to 3 weeks. Then you can return to your normal activities, including sports. If you have a severe sprain, you can return to your activities after about 4 weeks.

Still at least 3 months. At least.

Any operation on an MCL means more than a strain, a tear so possibly see her return around March/April. We will certainly miss her at the back but she's a tough cookie and will look at how quick Jill Roord recovered.
I imagine her target is getting fully fit for euros.

Greenwood's absence would indicate more of Kennedy playing in defence which is not an inspiring thought sadly.

Wonder if the club might be tempted to sign a replacement, ideally somebody on the up, for the long term, seeing as a quick return isn't on the cards ?

I have to believe that the last two games have put an end to Kennedys time with us. The new DOF should be looking to focus on getting a ball playing centre half now and for the future as her number one priority. Given that Laia will probably be on her way (would love her to sign an extension but looking less likely by the week) we have to be on this in Jan. Alex will not be back until probably early March and our season could be over by then. Layzell can step up and looks very promising but I'm not sure Gracie Prior is ready - maybe she will be in a few years but I've not been overly impressed with her passing range thus far.

Taylor and his coaches want us to play with emphasis on possession and building up from the back and we have seen with relying on Alanna to do that it becomes a real problem. We gave the ball away so many times against Everton and Barca and you cannot do that and hope to win. Lovely character but not such a good footballer for me and needs to be replaced pronto.

We added 2 young Central defenders in the summer with Layzell & Prior so can't see any additions being made in that area.

I suppose the real question then is will Taylor play them and if so, in what positions ?

I don't know much about them, but sadly my experience of Taylor and his use of players isn't at all inspiring, and at odds with a club who is very keen on quality/ ability in matters of management and coaching.

Tayolr appears nowhere near the necessary standard imo.

If they are both young, perhaps an older and better player than Kennedy to help them might be a better option ?

Who knows with his record with player selection and tactics ?

From what I've seen of Layzell she looks a talented young player, quick and mobile. Was player of the year at Bristol and capped at junior England level so I'd give her a go alongside Aleixandri for Ipswich game.
Does anyone know what's wrong with O'Hanlon? Another young talented player we bought in last season ..not been seen since.

Even so, we still went into the season with very little cover having let a fair few defenders leave/retire. I think Layzell is more than capable to cover/rotate with Aleixandri and seems able to fill in at RB too. Going into the season with no decent cover for Greenwood was a mistake though. We're lucky this has happened right before the transfer window opens as it gives a chance to right that wrong.

We will also need to enter the market again in the summer as its highly likely Aleixandri leaves.

Just signed Rebecca Knaak, a left footed central defender front Rosengard.

Looking at how vulnerable we've been from crosses with Alanna & also how slow we have been building up since Alex's injury this is a very astute signing. Hopefully she can form a great partnership with Laia until Alex gets fit.

Good start from the Theresa.

V pleased we've moved so quickly. It might confirm my worst fears that AG is out for the season but our director of football will know Knaak well and I think bringing in a slightly more experienced player in these circumstances is a smart move.

Charlotte O'Neill has confirmed we've already signed another player in addition to Rebecca Knaak and we're working on a couple of other too. Would love love a top notch left back to come in, probably another CB too and a defensively minded midfield player.

That's a really good chat with Charlotte O'Neil and was worth a watchl. It's on the OS if anybody hasn't seen it yet.
