On paper an "entertaining" game, but when you actually analyze it, it was awful, it could have finished 5-8, 2 ridiculous penalties, neither defence will be happy, not sure either teams forwards will either some of the chances they missed.

England need to play more measured football against the better teams. Vacate the defensive areas far too quickly when they haven't even established full control over the ball. This leaves us far too open to the transitions if (& inevitibley when) we lose the ball because someone's touch isn't up to scratch. How Williamson (who's not got back to her best for her club yet since returning from her ACL injury) gets selected ahead of Greenwood (who's been the best defender in the WSL for the last year and a bit) I'll never know. Walsh is often left isolated and finds herself battling 3 opposition players far too often with very little help being offered by Stanway or Toone (and the less said about her the better). Is Mead the best right winger right now? Surely not. Hempo needs to learn about the offside rule. She has the pace to burn most defenders so why she gets caught out so much is beyond me. Russo was probably the only England player who played well and she was subbed off early for her reward.

Bloody awful.Englands defenders constantly wanting to go down the right with the ball instead of giving the ball to our best player on the left !

If she was going to bring a player in who was past her "expiration date" it should have been Steph. We all know she would have busted her arse and given her all for the shirt even if she is a shadow of her former self. Her leadership and steady hand at Captain would still be valuable.
She's not looked up to this standard for a while now. Too lany players in this team on their past glories

It's the same old tale of English national football - the minute they come up against a team that has creative and attacking ambitions the defence is found wanting.

And let's not allow the attack to escape. Was the Toone miss derided by the media or is her connection to a red shirt allowed all manner of synpathy to pour fourth?

Agree with much of that. Williamson seems to be the poster-girl for the team and undroppable.

Not recovered her form after the ACL injury. Big rethink needed re this England team…. Too many players walking into that side who show nothing. Toone is totally anonymous as is Russo. Neither should be in the squad, let alone the starting 11.

Exactly this, reliant upon past performances, many of which were over-hyped due to rag association .

Yesterday, Japan defeated South Korea 4-0 in a friendly in Tokyo. Our 3 Japanese contingents did very well with Hasegawa assisting their first goal and Fujino scoring the second. Both players contributed a major part in the build up of their third goal. Also, Hasegawa almost assisted another goal, and Fujino almost scored a second. Yamashita (team’s captain) had an excellent save. Fujino and Yamashita played the entire game, and Hasegawa was substituted at the 70th minute. Highlights are below for those who are interested.

Williamson has great leadership qualities but she looks absolutely cooked at the moment and shouldn't be anywhere near the England starting 11. There's plenty of English CBs performing way better than her who aren't getting a look in.

Toone has produced some big moments for England but we have better options at number 10 right now. Including her own teammate Grace Clinton.

Russo has had a poor season so far at Arsenal but I think many of her difficulties have been caused by the fact Arsenal have never played to her strengths. I thought she was one of the better performers the other night but the bar was low. Russo
always looks better playing with another striker alongside her. When Hemp was moved inside to play alongside her at the WC it worked really well.

I'll always love Weigman for the way she turned this England side around but she can't keep relying on the 2022 side. She's already wasted a lot of time by failing to integrate a great young crop of emerging stars. If she doesn't make the most of the next 3 friendlies between now and end of the year I'm going to have serious concerns.

Anyone got any news on when the next batch of tv fixtures for the WSL is due to be released?

The current details only run till end of November. I can see the home derby fixture provisionally down as 19 Jan (at the Etihad) but could do with knowing the actual date and kick off time.

Edit just seen on X the first week in Dec released 3 days ago, but nothing beyond that.
I can’t quite see why the WSL is so difficult to plan for, what with there being many fewer games than the men’s league to begin with …

Haven't you heard? Gareth Taylor is a football genius!

If you want to know more about the new appointment there is a helpful guide on the City OS:

Who is Therese Sjogran?
Thanks for your post. The article tells us a bit about the person but nothing about her responsibility and authority within the club and in particular the women’s team.
Without authority over Taylor the appointment may come to nothing, but we can only wait and hope. In truth, the present team has a lot of skilful players with big hearts. It may be short of tall players and players with physical strengths who can tackle but if we add these to the squad we will be able to beat anyone with the right management.
