Chelsea Women season ticket holder here. I agree with a number of things you say.
On average academy standard male footballers are better than professional females. I don't mean bigger, stronger, faster; although all of those things are true; I mean better, as in more talented. This is hardly surprising given that a young man has to rise to the top of a much, much bigger pool in order to reach the professional ranks, than the one a young women must overcome to reach the top. I see no reason why this skill gap should not narrow.
Based on comments I've heard and read recently, female players are aware that they get an easy ride from fans, media and critics. What's more, they say they see it as patronising. Perhaps we'll all get better at being more straightforward with our observations as the women's game matures.
I see people like you and me as early adopters. The product needs to develop and natural selection will see that it does. I've only been watching women's football since 2015 but I've seen an improvement so I'd say that's already happening. I don't doubt it will continue. Meanwhile the games are competitive which is a key part of making them enjoyable. Enjoyable enough to persuade me to travel up to the academy stadium to watch games three times in the last two seasons, as well as to many other parts of the country.
Tickets for our game with Spurs are free. That will no doubt attract some criticism, but I don't have a problem with it. Based on the way additional parts of the stadium have already been opened up for ticket requests, it would seem that 15 to 20 thousand seats have been claimed in the first 36 hours after becoming available. Obviously when tickets are free more people ask for them than will actually turn up, but if the game attracts a five figure attendance that will be job well and truly done in my opinion. The game needs to get better but it is nevertheless watchable and exciting right now.
