Not the case. The quality of the “best” players counts. Wish that City had a Sam Kerr and a Guro Reiten. Those players more than compensate for the number of very average players in that Chelsea squad. An excellent coach like Emma Hayes also helps.
Chelsea have got several fantastic players and won the League. An obsession with our coach, who I do t particularly rate either, doesn’t change that.

This is the season for Gareth Taylor to prove that he actually has what it takes to be an excellent coach. Out with the old and in with the new on the playing side.
Club have clearly invested to attract the new players. No significant injuries.
Chelsea won the league with players like Sophie Ingle, Jess Carter, Niamh Charles, Beth England, Drew Spence - workmanlike but hardly fantastic.
None of them would be wanted at City.
Their superstars delivered - Kerr, Reiten, Fleming, Bright, Cuthbert.
Don’t think that Emma Hayes has consistently played her squad out of position.
The obsession with our coach is very simple - is he actually any good??

They also had Millie Bright who must be one of the best central defenders in the world. A fully fit Fran Kirby is a special player too.

I’m not Taylor’s biggest fan and he’s got a challenges bedding in several players who are new to the League. Let’s hope he can rise to the challenge and we have a great season. We’ve had an exodus of international players that has to be factored into our chances against Chelsea and Arsenal.

We’ve had an influx of international players. Far more than Chelsea and Arsenal this summer.
Millie Bright - like Wendy Renard - looks exceptional because there are hardly any world class centre forwards in the Womens game. This is the biggest weakness. If Alex Popp had been fit to play in that Euro final I feel that Germany would have won.
Watched Rangers Women thrash Hamilton Women today on BBC and Rangers played with two big strikers up front. Both shockingly bad. Useless.
Bunny Shaw is one of the few effective ‘big strikers’ in the womens game.
Expecting a lot from her - with loads of assists from Hemp and Kelly.

White and Scott don't seem to mention their time at City when discussing their retirement - they both seem to focus solely on England - e.g. on bbc football focus there was a background picture of Ellen in an Arsenal shirt - Gill mentioned cheering on City players by name but while alluding to England - It all seems a little sinister - you'd think they'd be gushing with praise for the club they played for. I've never seen a retiring player focus solely on their national team - as i say - seems weird. anyone have any idea what's wrong? (if anything).

Maybe it's just that they get a higher profile pushing their international careers because it's where the recent high attendances have been.

Or maybe they don't care about the clubs they play for?

White and Scott used to play for City?? You would NEVER know that from all that Lionesses ‘meet the squad’ guff served up by the BBC.
Don’t know if anyone watched any of those utterly dreadful videos - if not, you were bloody lucky.
A squad with very little personality and an extremely boring manager.
Bet everyone knows who Earps, Toone and Russo play for.

Yes, we've lost a few but we've also just supplied the highest number of players to the latest squad of the European Champions. As has been mentioned, we've also brought in some young but highly experienced internationals from Spain, Netherlands and Venezuela. The latter of which was the youngest player ever to be nominated for the FIFA Best Women’s Player of the Year award. Also exciting young talent in an Australian who has been awarded Australia’s PFA Young Women’s Footballer of the Year accolade and come second in NXGN Football’s 2022 Women’s Next Generation shortlist. Add to that the 3 times PFA Young Player of the Year and we should be looking at an exciting year ahead. Yes it may take time for some of the new arrivals to settle and get used to the WSL but we need to get behind the team and hope we can continue the form of the back end of last season and carry that into the new one.

I take your point but this was interviews actually with the players - admit I think all were with the BBC though.

The BBC went absolutely OTT with interviewing the Lionesses during Euro 2022. Every day a pair of BBC numptys would interview….a pair of England Lionesses. Painful!!
This was backed up with video diaries/ quizzes/ more tedious videos of players interviewing fellow players/attempts at humour/etc. All on the iPlayer.
We learned that just like their male counterparts they are largely a bunch of utterly boring twats with little of interest to say.
Total waste of licence fee payers money.
