Interesting chat on City OS with DoF Nils Nielsen about future recruitment strategy.

Nils Nielsen - extensions & recruitment
There's a couple of youth/fringe players that are holding off extending at the moment. There's a bit of pressure from National Teams (under age groups) to get competitive game time so players are looking to see if they can go on dual-reg or loan next season before committing.

Makes sense. If we're not planning to use players then given a chance to develop elsewhere. We might even get a player back at the end of it.

The loan system seems to producing better results in the women's game. Grace Clinton's loan at Spurs has been a massive success and I think Jess Park really benefitted from her season at Everton.

I imagine Ruby Mace would have liked to have played more this season and she's still young enough to go on loan I reckon. Esme Morgan must be weighing up her future. Think she's 24 next so maybe a permanent move would be better for her at this stage of her career. I really really like her but she's barely getting a look in at City . It's clear Sarina Weigman has time for her but she won't be able to keep picking her if she's getting no action at City.

Morgan's under contract and is a blue through and through but how long she'll keep getting picked for England without breaking into the City first team must be on her mind. I rate her though and think she'll feature more next season.

Mace has a contract offer from us on the table, but I believe also has offers from other WSL clubs where you'd imagine she'd be nearer the first team... I'm told she doesn't want to leave but has to think of her career. Will renew if there an indication she'll get more time with us or a loan move IMO.

Great intel thanks. Yeah you can tell that Morgan is just a really brilliant presence around the squad. Just hope they find minutes for her. I haven't really seen enough of Mace to know how much of a prospect she is but would be good to see her get a loan move and see how she progresses

Thanks for that.

I think the posters on here know how highly I rate Mace. It's going to be our loss if Taylor continues to ignore her or can't find a way to get her into the team.

She may be a defender, but she's a really good reader of the game and displays immense talent as a DM and potential partner for Hasegawa, allowing her to move further up.

I don't understand why Taylor doesn't want that.
