It seems to be just pride imo. They don't want to be seen as less than the mens game so insist on playing on the same size pitch with the same size goals, even if that does mean that most of the players can't reach the cross bar. I can't see any other reason why, as it's very unfair on nations like Japan who are naturally pretty short. (I can't imagine there are too many Japanese women who are 5'10, which is pretty much about the minumum for a keeper)all the women keepers have looked poor, I don't know why they don't play with nets 10/20% smaller, women golfers play off ladies tees and women cricketers have smaller boundaries.

Give over. Just have a think about what the consequences would be if they had to install smaller goalposts every time they played...There are a few good ones. The US, German, and Canadian keepers are good.
I agree though that they should reduce the size of the goal a bit.
