I think singing the 'proper' version is almost a bit mawkish.

We should sing the Alan Ball version just to show we still have that self-mocking, self-depreciation and humility that City fans are famous for... and to remind everyone (ourselves included) that the shit times were still a part of our history looked back on with fondness and perhaps even pride.

Mawkish ? No offence to you but isn’t that part of the reason why the atmosphere isn’t great most of the time - ie people think they are too cool to sing....

Nothing wrong with singing a Manchester classic at all. I don’t think we always need to show humility or self depreciation either. A Manchester classic that is loved by the players and fans is more then good enough a reason. Singing about Alan ball right now doesn’t make any sense either to me
