Woodhouse park

There were quite a few tbh mate, didn`t know he`d gone a bit mad now though, I suppose many of you younger lads won`t remember the big`manhunt` for him after a Post Office in Styal got done over in the early 80`s either ?

The Woodpecker was a great pub once upon a time aswell, as was the Labour club next door (which I believe it`s gone now).
Armed police come to my dad's looking for him after that post office job

My dad used take my grandad in there on sunday afternoons, he told me about the time Tommy Cooper walked in and just started pulling drinks for everyone in the pub.
Ive lived round the corner for about 15 years and Ive never stepped foot in the place.

-- Sun Oct 10, 2010 1:24 am --

I believe he went a couple of times. Whenever he played at the Garter, he used to go on a crawl starting at the Silver Birch, The Cock Of The North, The Woodpecker...Probably a few others too. Go on You tube and look for the Golden Garter reunion from a few years back. I think it was on there about him being that pissed he ended up at the wrong venue and someone from the GG had to go and get him from Birmingham.

Not seen him in ages...Not noticed him near the Red Beret either. He was going in there a few years back. He upset a lot of people back in the day, surprised I've not heard of him getting filled in by the grandson's of those he wronged.

Lived in Woodhouse Park from 1950 to 1967. Went to St Anthony's and then St. Gregory's in Ardwick. Have very fond memories of growing up there, lots of open spaces, wooded areas, friendly neighbours. We used to walk down Woodhouse Lane to Ringway and buy some sweets and pop from the shop at the end of the lane and watch the 3 (ha) planes a day land and take off.

Lovely simple times when people were happy and carefree.

Not sure if it was the same bloke when you were there but when I was a lad, the guys name was “Bernard Fullalove”, and he was one of the most miserable gits I’ve ever encountered in my life, the fact I still remember his name some 50 years on should be a good indication of the impression he left on me.

Ha ha, sorry mate but I don't recognise the name. I was about 6 months old when we moved there from Hulme. We lived in Greyfriars Ave for about 3 years and then moved to Knowe Ave (just off Ruddpark Road near St. Anthony's). Bet he was a rag :)
