Words that have gone out of fashion

I love the origin of this phrase which came from Meccano who used to have a Box Standard and a Box Deluxe version of some of their products. Box Standard became "bog standard" and the other was first spoonerised to Dox Beluxe then corrupted to the phrase we know.
According to QI, anyway, so probably proved wrong now.

I believe it originates from the newspaper industry (according to my old editor). It’s to do with printing and the dog’s bollocks is actually this :- but why it’s associated with something being really good I’ve no idea.

We used to call really big, shit shoes clodhoppers.

My mate got some shockers off his dad for school when we were about 11-12 and they had a huge thick sole on them. He got ribbed pretty bad for the year.
