I was at primary in the early 1970's and the word "Barleys" was said a lot. You used to put your thumbs up when you said it and it indicated you were "off limits" in whatever trouble was brewing.

It might not have even been "Barleys" as my memory is bad, but it was something that certainly sounded like it.

In the late 1980's my Son went through a phase of saying "TAXED!!!" to any car he thought was mint. Used to drive me round the sodding bend.
