I didn't mean by the general public, I probably should have elaborated. I meant by the jobcentre. They don't treat you like a person and make it very very hard for you if you are already feeling low and useless about the situation you are in.

Yes we do. Not always I admit, but I'd like to think I'm one of the good ones.

I saw a guy and he was just mean. I have posted above what happened to me ^

In that case he was out of order.

It's like any big organisation though; sometimes it's good and sometimes it isn't.
When you are in that though you can only do your best for the person in front of you and I, and many of my colleagues, try to do that.
It isn't easy being a social worker as well as trying to improve someone's job prospects.
The barriers to work are varied and immense in some cases, and unfortunately some get caught up in it.
Pretty much like the suggestion today will do.

fantastic idea IMO.

will weed out the lazy fuckers.

obviously disabled people or full time single parents etc etc are exempt though!

What about part time single parents, and folk who are disabled but don't look as if they are?

the former are of course working and single parents in their spare time from work so they would get benefits for the time they're not working.

and the latter comment is ridiculous, it has to be proven by a doctor obviously.

FFS people used to walk miles just to queue outside factory gates for the chance of a shift, just shows that people are not motivated enough these days to work. I would get on my bike and cycle to the job centre!

This all day long, not enough people are motivated work will motivate them !! why should hard workers pay tax just to squander Billions on Welfare, I agree certain people will always require welfare and rightly so but each and everyone of you here slating this initiative knows someone who can work but won't !!!

You appear to have missed the point. (apologies in advance. This guys a bit "shouty" for my taste, but by god he's spot on)

I would never go on the dole again even if it meant I ate nothing. I had a temporary problem and needed help but it was a total nightmare for me but I suppose they want to make it difficult now for people to claim so I guess it worked on me. And I honestly couldn't criticise anyone on benefits because it's not an easy life at all

If only 5% of people a year currently on the dole end up re-connecting and getting back into work then that is around 150,000 people a year who will be able to look themselves in the mirror in the morning and feel themselves to be valued members of the community who are pulling his weight and helping others.
But as others have already pointed out these jobs must actually exist if they need people to do them, in which case why not pay them properly to do them? And what about all the people who must already do these jobs for a proper wage? Do they all get laid off and then rehired for peanuts via this bonkers scheme? It's ill-thought-out nonsense that will benefit no one, breed a seething mass of resentment and potential social unrest and ultimately cost the country far more than it saves. But then the Tories already know all this, which is why it will never see the light of day. Will win them plenty of votes in the meantime though.

It was a joke mate, based on you saying 'obviously disabled people'.
But seemingly I am going to hell for making jokes about Nigerian massacres and now disabled folk.
Blueband Brother will be having kittens in his impotent rage.

A guy who i have been in hospital with a few times and i know fairly well suffers from severe Psorasis which has caused him mental breakdowns and as a result mental illness finally found the confidence to take on some charity work for a local charity that helped people move house. As a result of this ATOS found him fit for work and he ended up doing workfare. It destroyed his fragile confidence and he ended up back in hospital for 2 months. Osborne's stupidity will cause more cases like this.

Im sick to death of hearing the rhetoric of "making work pay" "something for nothing" "scrounging Britain" Its divisive, its factional, it pits the poor against the poor and does nothing to adress the fact that if there were decent well paid jobs available people would always chose to work as living on welfare is very fucking hard i tell you.

Politically judging from this thread even some of our resident nutjobs think this is a step to far and i hope to fuck Osborne is exposed for the **** he really is. His nutjob party faithful may lap up stuff like this but the average person on the street knows with the economy fragile and job security not great it could be them picking up dogshit in Tatton Park.

The Tory conference slogan is 'For Hardworking People'.Who does this include and exclude?

Does it include people with a job but who don't work particularly hard?

What about smart lawyers who work hard to help businesses avoid paying tax?

Hard working TUC leaders planning strike action?

Casino bankers?

People deserve to know if the Tory conference is addressing them or not.

Answers on a postcard please to Baron Geoffrey Osborne.
