Work....who likes it.

I went about 6 months of finding work a real chore and was beginning to dread every day, 45 minute commute both ways in car when I would have preferred to cycle or walk the 10 miles. I was suffering with chronic sciatica and neck pain and dreaded having to sit down all day. I was fortunate that my work got me a standing desk in the office and physio which helped significantly. Then covid came and I’ve now got my home office with standing desk and I’ve never been happier, do miss my daily walk and football chats with a good friend but he also works from home now ten miles in opposition direction. I like the challenge of the work, some days are more exciting than others and often get complex problems to solve which is great. All that said, if I was to come into a life changing amount of money I’d relocate and wouldn’t be tied to a daily working routine, would have freedom to travel more (difficult with young kids) and travel home and away on my own terms, probably less overnight megabus journeys. To keep me mentally stimulated I’d like to get into statistical data analysis/ football scouting and do kids coaching, I love football as that’s where my heart is.
Ive started coaching my lads u9 team this year. Cant explain the enjoyment to be got from it . Its like nothing ive ever experienced. And the fun doesnt come from winning, we are a lower level team and lose more than we win. No, the fun comes from being a small cog in giving lads a game of football

I was fortunate enough to turn a hobby into my job for over 35 years. Although I really enjoyed what I did I like retirement more.

I had done the same job until recently for about 7 years stuck in the office or more recently at home. It was boring, the same shit every day and I’d done it for so long it just became no challenge at all. I applied for a new role, it took me 3 attempts to get the job over 18 months, but I finally got it in July. I love it, a huge challenge, more money, being out every day, managing my own time etc. It’s also hugely rewarding being able to help people who need it, and working in a great team where we all get along in and out of work.

I don't believe anyone actually enjoys their job.

Is there anyone who would carry on working at their current job if they won £50m on the lottery?
No. Because you'd spend your time doing things that you do actually enjoy.

Im honestly what sure what i would do day in day out if my numbers come up.
I mean, i hope they do! Id jack graft in immediately, but i dont know how id fill my days.

I have been working for myself for the last 10 years. Most stressful thing in the world.
I am my own boss, but sometimes it gets so stressful.

Takes a toll,

A quote from Wire. " Becareful what you get good at".

It can define your life, especially if you dependant on it.

At this point even if I wanted to walk away would take 2 years. Can become a ball and chain.

Do enjoy setting my own schedule, however in yhe same breath I go yo bed with all the problems.

Have an eye on a piece of land 5 minutes from the beach. Then going off the grid, you will only be able to get a hold of me by mail. By a postage stamp.

My cell phone will be at the bottom of the ocean. Can't wait( fingers crossed).

In the 35 plus years I worked for myself the worst thing was employing other people. The last 6 mths when I was winding the business down and it was just me and the missus was the best 6 mths of the 35 years in that respect.

I’d travel. I’d be abroad every month plus go to as many matches as I can. I’d be fine.
