World class City players

We have no world class players. Tevez is borderline and on current form is. But generally we have none.

I would agree with this although would also say the OP's top 5 are as close as we have got over the years.

silly comment, world class isnt the best 1 or 2 players in every postion, world class is possibly the best 5-10 players in each postion, hence i would say tevez, silva, kompany, dejong, dzeko, kolarov, hart are all world class as i wouldnt say there are more than 9 better players than them in their postions.

These comments sum up the problem with the phrase "World Class": no-one can agree on what it means.

I can think of four different definitions:
1) Players currently good enough that they would make a world "select" 11.
2) Players currently good enough that they would make a world "select" squad of 25-30.
3) Players currently good enough that they would make a "top 100" of players currently playing in the world
4) (and I think this is closest to the OP's original point since he talks about ever having played for City) players that have played for City that would make an all-time top 100 "hall of fame" for world footballers.

Using the above criteria:
1) no-one (but Tevez comes close + could nudge it on current form)
2) Tevez (maybe Silva)
3) Tevez,Silva,Yaya,Balotelli
4) Kaziu Deyna (and maybe Tevez in a few years time)

Definition of 'World Class'

If kids in the playground fight over who should be <World Class Player's Name> irrespective of players club or country, then he is 'World Class'

Kompany - the man has the ability and dare i say it brains to become even more amazing - along with de jong he is one of our best buys.

I think I agree with this comment.

Generally, world class to me implies the absolute best. i.e. top 25 players in the world. And I think Tevez is the closest we have. Silva is a fantastic player, and great for us, but he is at the level just outside of world class in my opinion.

Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Ronaldo, Alves, Ibrahimovic, Eto'o, Torres, VIlla, Kaka, Frank RIbery, Fabregas, Sneidjer, Lucio, Maicon, Cassilas, Buffon, Drogba, Tevez, Shrek, Gerrard, Robben, Vidic.

But by the end of this year I can see Silva, Modric, Bale sneaking in and the likes of Ribery and Lampard falling out.

Why is Rooney, Ribery, Buffon, Robben and Kaka still in that list? All have done fuck all/been injured for the past 6-8 months.
