World Cup 2018 | 11th July | SF: Croatia vs England Match Thread, KO 19:00 (BST)

Baiting Sterling became a national past time for the Daily Mail / Sun readers.

Sterling was used as a supply line to Kane. He'd drop back and collect the ball from the defence and carry it forward. He had a different role in the Croatia game where he had the Croat defence on toast but it didn't last.

You're right about the England midfield. Useless. This is the most limited England side I can ever remember. Gazza, Beardsley, Lampard, Gerrard, Rooney, Beckham, Owen, Shearer, Waddle, Cole, Des Walker, Keegan, Brooking, Robson. Those were footballers who could play. The current England midfield don't hold a candle to such players.
Keegan, Brooking? You’re no spring chicken!...:)

Wow, I hadn’t realised how nailed on that chance would have been for Sterling. Kane was thinking more of the golden boot than winning the game.

Second i saw the replay i said pep wouldnt like that. He wants his team to score, full stop. Hes not interested in greedy strikers , if its easier to square it - square it.

Thought kanes discipline went to shit last night as he drifted out of position to try and ‘find’ some service

Greedy twat

Strikers instinct I’m afraid. Don’t forget sterling had also missed a few against Sweden so maybe that was in Kane’s mind. Tbh I didn’t jump onto the Kane bandwagon . Most of his goals were either penalty’s or off his arse and I will never forgive him for not letting stones go for his hatrick against Panama. Did you see the Man City style passing coming out of England’s defence though . Pep has changed the way everyone plays

That angle is deceptive.

It could have been cut out by the two Croatian defenders before it even got to Sterling.

He's entitled to go for goal from there.

Brooking and Keegan were part of an England team that didn't even qualify for the 1978 World Cup.

Gazza, Beardsley, Waddle and Walker never got any further than a World Cup semi-final.

The rest of them never even got that far.

And yet you're slagging off the current team for matching that achievement, some of them in their first tournament.

england really did play well throughout this tournament. I've never seen town/ the pubs as packed and people as excited before. its all you could hear on the train and walking about. they should be proud of what they did and they really brought the country together.
