World Cup 2018 | 1st July | R16: Spain vs Russia, KO 15:00 (BST)

Also, Busquets not being the kind of player that pushes up well whenever Isco vacated meant that Alba was often horribly under-utilised.

It's better to have 'I didn't see it' than 'We all saw it but have decided to ignore it' yes.

We, as in City, are going to get fucking shafted by this if it comes in. And I'll tell you now, how it's going to go; early in the season we will get some slightly favourable v.a.r. decisions & rags etc some iffy ones.

In some fucking huge games, we will suddenly get a right fucking shafting, but like today with Spain, various fucking numpties on tv will argue it's fair decision & meanwhile the rags etc will get a helping hand.

It will be every bit as bad as the worst reffing we have ever had but it will be fully legitimate & we will just have to take it, up the fucking arse.

The only thing the rags etc are waiting for, is evidence they can control it. Then it's in.
Those bastard clouds are back as well.

they weren't the same though. the england penalty, the panama player had both arms round the player until they were down. this one was more 50/50. besides, england pen didn't go to VAR, ref made a judgement call and VAR didn't intervene as wasn't clear error. here, ref judged not a pen and VAR judged not a clear error.

in time, the VAR will gain more power, but the current system is designed to give the refs most power, to bed the new system in. alternative would be chaos.

That's right. They didn't got to VAR. for the second pen it was more likely to have been called for the more obvious infringement that occurred two yards in front of the ref that was genuinely under where the ball was played. The coverage oddly chose to replay the obstruction on Kane, who was not even close to where the ball was played.

Silva and Isco probably should have switched roles.

If you watch Silva and KDB at City, you'll notice a pattern in terms of their movement. Silva tends to follow play, constantly positioning himself in front of the DM/CB on that side looking to create an overload on whatever side he's on.
Meanwhile, KDB tends to follow play very slowly, almost appearing static at times. But the idea is that as the overload is created on one side, play opens up around KDB without him doing much. So play comes back across to him, and due to his all round creative brilliance it means he has the opportunity to play a quick through ball, hit a cross, run into the box, or take a shot.

For Spain, Silva plays the KDB role and Isco the Silva role. If you watched Silva, he was often unusually nowhere near play. This was as he was looking to exploit space vacated by overloads created by Isco and co. In the group stages it was this way too. It would have made far more sense to play Silva in the free role, and have Isco play the open sided position. This is as Isco has a wider creative range than Silva as well as being more of a direct threat. Also Silva's wasted in the current position as he's nowhere near as directly threatening as he use to be, likely due to his age.

Let Silva do what Silva does. Even if not him, Iniesta can still do it. It would involve restricting Isco which was never going to happen though.
Good analysis.

Also explains why Silva will be the most difficult player for us to replace

Kane clearly grabbed the bloke then let go.

How the fuck can anyone interpret that as different to Piquet & Ramos ?

The initial foul was the precedent not what happened afterwards. Now, yet again, the rules have been changed to protect v.a.r.

You are certain this rule will continue being interpreted as today are you ?

This is exactly what will happen, and unfortunately, you will be able to resurrect it in two years time and say I told you so.
