World Cup Final - Spain v Holland [Merged]

Wasn't happy with the end result but I thought Howard Webb had a pretty good match considering. Iniesta's tribute to Dani Jarque was pretty special, really stood out to me as one of the moments of the Cup.

Why all the hatred toward Spain in this thread? Evidenced by all the irrational comments I read from other posters about Spain diving and cheating.

In the match I saw, I didn't see any diving by Spain, but a lot of fouls by the Dutch.

True there were a lot of fouls by the Dutch but Spain's decision to roll around on nearly every occasion was a little tiresome. The worst was I believe David Villa who after one challenge must have rolled around at least 10 times before Howard Webb finally decided to pull back play and give the Dutch defender (I'm thinking it might have been Heitinga's first) yellow card. I could do without all the play acting. If you get brought down, then just get back up and in the play, I hate seeing guys roll about 10 yards. If you are that hurt you likely wouldn't be moving at all.

I really can not understand the anomosity aimed towards Spain, they have proved beyond doubt that they are the best team in the world.European and World champions beaten twice in 55 games. They play football how it is supposed to be played, and we all wish that England played like it,instead of the dross we have to sit and watch.

Pre-match I wanted Holland to win, if only because Spain have flattered to deceive all tournament, they won every knock-out match 1-0 (including eventually the final), that's hardly exciting football is it?

However once it became apparent the Dutch had decided to kick the Spanish off the pitch in order to win my oppinion changed and I was rooting for Spain.

There seems to have been a lot of criticism for Howard Webb, mainly from disgruntled Dutchmen, and I really can't see why. He was given an impossible task by the way the Dutch approached the game, he simply had to give foul after foul and book players, there was no leeway really. Ok, so he should have given a corner near the end and didn't, but that's one decision in 120 minutes. Sour grapes from the Dutch manager, Cruyff and most inexplicably Van Bommel, he should be thanking Webb for allowing him to complete the full 12o minutes.

Not true. Webb has been absoloutely panned by the Spanish media as well. I don't think he favoured any side. He was equally bad for both. The manner in which the Dutch approached the game was poor. That said, he wasn't strong enough.

Red card should have came out 1st half. Regardless of the occassion. Van Bommell or NDJ, take your pick. I rememember the meltdown on here when Vidic stayed on in the League Cup final when he should have gone early doors. Last night was no different.

CAMPEONES !!!! CAMPEONES !!!!!! CAMPEONES !!!!!!!

What a brilliant victory !!!!!!
