Pre-match I wanted Holland to win, if only because Spain have flattered to deceive all tournament, they won every knock-out match 1-0 (including eventually the final), that's hardly exciting football is it?
However once it became apparent the Dutch had decided to kick the Spanish off the pitch in order to win my oppinion changed and I was rooting for Spain.
There seems to have been a lot of criticism for Howard Webb, mainly from disgruntled Dutchmen, and I really can't see why. He was given an impossible task by the way the Dutch approached the game, he simply had to give foul after foul and book players, there was no leeway really. Ok, so he should have given a corner near the end and didn't, but that's one decision in 120 minutes. Sour grapes from the Dutch manager, Cruyff and most inexplicably Van Bommel, he should be thanking Webb for allowing him to complete the full 12o minutes.
