World Cup VAR

You know what? ANYTHING is possible!!

I mean, if that was 'challenged' and the ref reviewed it, how could he not give either pen??

'Nah, he went down like a lightweight!'

'What's wrong with a little cuddle in the box?'

Fook me, the I'd LOVE to hear the reasons why!!

Incidents away from the ball in real play are harder to pick up instantly by VAR. yes that should have been a pen but talk of corruption is predictable and boring

Completely justifying everything that I have said all along ! VAR can only be used for offside and where incidents take place e.g. that one and I am totally in favour for those two occurrences only. Although some would say that was oytside the box ! Everything else is subjective and a complete no no.

Apart from multiple decisions it's corrected already. Egypt penalty latest example

if questionable decisions aren't referred to the ref while not great, it wouldn't make the decision any worse than originally given. So hardly a disaster. I presume that's why FIFA are reviewing the Kane incidents, to help improve things in the future.
But if refs avoid making decisions thinking that VAR will bail them out, then you need to make sure potential penalty decisions aren't ignored by VAR teams like they have been so far.

Every other sport with has seen refs less likely to make decisions, preferring to let TV decide.

I agree, the VAR application still needs further improvement for sure. When it's applied correctly it's been good in the main. It's not the VAR tech which has been the issue, more the human element which needs further improvement.

but it's early days, everyone is getting used to it still...

And cases of violent conduct. Apart from that what else has VAR brought us. easy hand ball on the line decisions but apart from that oh and cases of mistaken identity but what else has it fixed. let's get rid and go back to normality

Oh bore off and try and be objective rather than just an apologist.

My commentators certainly didn’t agree. It’s a clear penalty.

BBC :

78 mins
Another Egypt penalty appeal but Ilya Kutepov and Marwan Mohsen were just grabbing each other's shirts in the box. No need for VAR this time.

+++

As I say. Wasn’t anything clear, just two players tussling each other a little.

Whilst I’m for VAR , I’m not an apologist- it will get a lot wrong and will take a long while yet to get right. But got to be better than the Ref missing blatant decisions or guessing on decisions.

Er.... read his post again.

no need. My point was he thinks hes been completely justified that var is no use for subjective decisions, when there's been loads of examples of VAR correcting incorrect subjective decisions such as the Egypt, Peru and France incidents plus several others, that while subjective, VAR has corrected obvious mistakes.

Oh well if some online tea boy agrees with you....

Ffs, you do realise that an argument to authority, when there is no authority is plumbing the depths even for a small fat cockney like you?

It was a clear penalty as anyone with a pair of eyes and the ability of cogent thought will realise.

The Eygypt player had hold of that defenders shirt first so it was a foul to Russia before it was a penalty to Eygypt

it's given multiple correct decisions already....???? Improving dramatically in it's infancy, loads of incorrect decisions.

the old system is a disgrace.... And not fit for purpose anymore

No. Just you

You used the penalty as a case in point. A decision he’d already to referred to as being one of the uses of VAR.

The problem with VAR is that it is being used subjectively. You may say that more decisions are now correct but there’s zero bloody use in that if they all end up favouring one team. Let’s say it’s a helter skelter game and four decisions are wrong in real time, if the VAR only picks up on the two for side A and neither of side B’s then it just ruins the game and result even further. Just like last night when Tunisia get a soft penalty, VAR does fuck all as it’s not ‘a clear and obvious mistake’ and then Kane is denied two stone wall penalties and VAR sits back and does a superb impression of a chocolate fire Guard.

The technology is there, it’s just not being implemented correctly.
