Veron to United.

At the top of his came when he arrived.

i thank you for the valid example, but im looking more for why they dont come. is it the game we play, is it too demanding are they not up for it?

p.s veron was shite n' all! - maybe coming here is just too much of a gamble for top players - if you come to england and flop maybe it beomes hard to get your stock back up again?

Veron was shite, point taken.

I think the weather, the culture and the environment has a lot to do with it.

Where would you rather be Barcelona, Milan, Madrid or Hackney? :P

Plus we now have this 50% super tax which will only turn away even more players.

The EPLs status has risen steadily abroad for some years. The football is getting better with less rugby teams and lot of foreign blood mixed in the pot making things interesting.

Cash and results speak their own language, If EPL stays the world best league with top money to earn, there will be many more of the best players drawn to the EPL in the future. In Sweden, English football was branded boring for some time (not that we are better in any way!) and people prefered the Italian and Spanish game but that is of the past and EPL is back as the most watched and followed league here and I'm sure in many other countries aswell.

With City now joining the festival sooner or later, EPL will stay healty and the top 4 will certainly get less sleep on their needlebeds thinking how to improve and stay at the top. More competition comming from behind will generate a need for more money to bring in better players, to stay up there, or be left behind.

Also some glory for the national team in SA2010 would help promote EPL a bit. It's been so close many times but now with the lunie Capello behind the whip this could be it. England seems very strong atm, from an outsiders view.

But who wouldn't choose a easy going Spanish or Italian lifestyle with great food and weather. Maybe even stay there over a few quid more over in Rainy semi-rough fishnchipsland :)

Lifestyle.
Pure and simple.
Choose between Madrid, Barcelona, Milan,Manchester and London.
Throw in the weather.
Just give me a minute !

Some of the players mentioned on this thread were genuine world class.
Seba Veron was. Just didn't hack it at the swamp.
Shevchenko is another.
Not cut out for the rough and tumble of the Premiership.
Doesn't mean he's not a quality player.

Our league is probably the most entertaining in world football.
But other leagues. i.e. La Liga, are certainly technically better.
And they now have the worlds top 3 all plying their trade in Spain.

And if you believe the reports coming out of the Catalan capital today, then a 28 year old who has been offered a kings ransom, and is possibly slightly past his best, doesn't fancy the delights of east Manchester !

So maybe our league isn't seen abroad in quite the same light as we see it.

Our best players used to go abroad gazza etc they don't now.
the prem seems to get better younger players who come here to prove themselves then move on to the easier option.
i.e spain fewer games, easier league better women!

I would definitely say the climate and lifestyle are major factors. I have also heard one lad that South Americans prefer Catholic countries
