Worst away day ever

i agree with blackburn in the fa cup QF in 2007, but i'd like to add charlton away at the arse end of 1986. it was at selhurst park for starters (one of my least favourite away grounds anyway) and we lost 5-0. it was one of them games you knew we were going to be shit from the off, it was just a question of how shit we were going to be. boy were we shit, one of the few times i've thought the cliche lucky to get nil was actually true. that is from a football point of view. in general, everton and sheffield united were always shit away days

A disgraceful performance by the whole team. They didn't try one jot. If they want to make a point, how about paying my ticket and travel costs.

Charlton at Palace; another one where I went on the special. And 5-0 defeat and I had flu.
 
Palace away league cup quarter final lost 4-0, really thought we were going to go all the way that season - shit ground, took fucking ages to get in, shit match, shit journey home. Got 3 hours kip then into work and we had a new bloke working in the office and the daft fuckers told him I liked to talk about the match even after a heavy defeat!
 
In recent years the only place I seem to have a shit time at is Tottenham.

It's a horrible area, their fans are generally knobs, and the only place to drink is that Irish centre; and it's shite in there.

2-1 loss in May 2007.
Last game of the season. We were safe, but played with fear. Rigid 4-5-1. We knew it was Jordan's last game, it was probably going to be Distin's, Barton was suspended by the club, Richards was injured (again). Michael Johnson (remember him?) was the only glimmer. Pearce deservedly sacked the following day. A horrible end to a horrible season.

2-1 loss in December 2007.
Under Sven we were looking good. Chimbonda scored an offside goal, Bianchi equalised before Ireland lunged in and got himself sent off and with about 5 minutes to go Defoe scored the winner for them. Everyone in the away end looked drained - the game was a Sunday and most people had stayed up/not gone to bed to watch Hatton vs Mayweather, which at the time I was pretty gutted about. It was freezing.

3-0 loss in December 2009.
The final straw for Hughes. Abysmal performance. Lennon taking the piss out of Sylvinho all night. Heartless performances from Robinho and Adebayor. I was full of flu at the time, but I decided to go anyway. As soon as they made it 3-0 I escaped the ground to get piss wet through.

3-1 loss in April 2013.
I went out in Islington the night before for a mates birthday. One of the most hungover experiences at a match. It's not too long ago to remember what happened but in summery; we got well beaten from the jaws of victory. It just about summed up our away form in the whole of this current year. Still no weekend away win since January...

I still go to White Hart Lane because this might happen again:

Has to be this.

Got in early from London and set off for the ground so that we could find pub near to the ground so that we could leave the pub near kick - off - mistake; should have stayed in the town and left the pub early.

Couldn't find anywhere by the ground and ended up in a massive housing estate. As luck would have it, we did eventully find a pub mostly filled with our 3 fingered friends. Hardly any City in it and the locals took delight in letting us know that they knew we were City. To be fair, no trouble but they were pretty unwelcoming.

To the groung - if that's what you can call it. As Luddite says, open away end and it was pouring down and got soaked. Worst perfomance and after their second went in, I left with about 10 minutes to go; that's the only time I've left a game early.

Only good thing was that City had a good following that day and kept singing.

It's for days like this that we deserve the fortune that is The Sheik...............

As others have posted, the 4-1 defeat at Lincoln was my worst trip. Went with a lad from work and his dad who were both big Lincoln fans, stood in their home end and smiled nicely when Uwe scored in the first minute.

Lincoln's a very long way away when you're stuck in a car with two people trying to take the piss by being quiet and smiling a lot....

We had to climb a muddy banking at the back of Victoria station to get on the train.
It arrived late and the police escort disappeared.
It was 1 1 by the time we got in.
They opened their South Stand that day, we were in the central pen with Dirty Leeds fans on our left and right and above as well.
It rained coins and a young lad had his hand bricked on one of the fences separating that lot from us.
My mate's girlfriend nearly broke her leg because it was so overcrowded and we had to get treatment pitch-side.
No police escort back to the station.
It rained bricks and we brought the lad with the broken hand with us plus two other casualties.
We tried to get them help from a copper and he said 'just get on the fucking train c*nt'.
There were Dirty Leeds fans roaming round the station.
A gang of them in full view of the police attacked us but one said 'leave them, they're with birds'. Classy.
The train was like a hospital train from the war on the way back.


No food , no drink, no heating, no toilets.

Swore I would never go back there and I never have.

I had a great time that Swindon game because my mate managed to get four directors box seats and free run behind the scenes, free booze and food. We were drinking with the players after. We still tell stories from that day. My mate was so pissed he got his meal from the hotel buffet and dropped it with a smash on the floor. Some tutting woman was bent over clearing it up and he did a 'feeling' gesture behind her arse to make everyone laugh. But he mistimed it, she felt it and stood up and belted him one and bollocked him in front of the whole restaurant.

I was there too but actually somehow enjoyed that day, It was true city fans - cheering the away goals and making a big joke of it followed by a good craic in the town centre bars afterwards! I also enjoyed the trip there, cant remember where we changed but the train to boro was like a football special, except for 1 poor woman and a chinese bloke who had 'aye aye ippy sun jihai' sung at him most of the way!!
