Would the league on its own be regarded as a failure?

It might feel anti climactic as I think most people have felt it's been an inevitability for a while now so we've been looking beyond that.

Also, to have been so dominant, it'd be nice to see the players collect loads of silverware for their efforts.

The league title is the trophy I want more than any other at the start of a season though and if we only won that I'll be chuffed to bits. Especially given the manner in which we've played.

In terms of domestic cups, I think the biggest statement we can make (even above a double or a treble) is to win back to back league titles for the first time. That should be our target and could really set us up for a few years.
Good post...fook em

To me, the greatest achievement in English Football is retaining the title. Winning this year and strengthening in the summer will give us a real chance of achieving that, so I will not regard it as failure by any means. Also, we could well break Chelsea's 95pt record, which will firmly etch us into the history books for quite a while to come.

Totally agree with you laser eyes.
I would swap all the cups this season for us to do back to back prem titles.

To only win the league wouldn’t be a failure, but it would be an anticlimax. For me a thoroughly satisfactory season would mean

Winning the league( which we will)
Continuing to play well against all comers
Winning against Arsenal on Sunday
Reaching semi finals of CL
Teeing up transfers in that will strengthen ( in every sense) the squad.
Not incurring any more serious injuries to key players, including at World Cup.
Not losing any important players (or Pep) to transfers.

Too many people caught up with the press narrative of how we will be perceived in the future regarding how great we are, that we need to win multiple trophies this season to achieve greatness.

BOLLOCKS.

We achieved greatness with a 18 game winning run, we achieved greatness by winning the title at a canter, and don't anyone start saying we haven't won it yet because we have.

The press want to compare us to sides from the past who won doubles or even trebles, again that's bollocks, the rag side that won the treble were fucking extremely fortunate to do so in both cups, something everyone seems to overlook.

A Munich side battered them for 90 minutes then blew it, an Arsenal side that were a Bergkamp penalty away from defeating them in the cup.

The only trophy were an element of luck isn't a necessity to win is the title, one we've won, the rest all require huge strokes of good fortune, something we didn't have on Monday but hopefully something we'll have on Sunday.

So no, it won't be a failure, it'll be disappointing for sure but it'll hardly be the last thing this team will win.

Monday night, I feel in my blood, will be the defining moment of our season. How we react to that loss will determine whether it’s the league, by how many points and whether we win anything else.

I’m still more than happy with only the league and I always laughed when people mentioned winning all 4. But I firmly believe and trust in Pep and our key players, that all of the match on Monday, the no card, red card, missed chances and the after match crap, will spur us on to win on Sunday, retain our points advantage in the league AND do some serious damage in the CL!
