I could just be being naive here, but if they want to be socially equal to heterosexuals, then why do they feel the need to broadcast their sexuality, or their sudden realisation that they like cock instead of muff?
I have several homosexual friends, and I'm not a homophobe at all. But being in the closet doesn't mean you have to be ashamed of your sexuality. If you are homosexual, then you live a homosexual life and let other figure it out for themselves. I know that if you don't "come out" then you are straight to the outside world, but turning up to a party one day with your partner who just happens to be the same sex as you, would gain you far more respect from other people than "coming out" and making a big scene about it would.
"Coming out" leaves people in a vulnerable position. My friend "came out" as bisexual three years ago, and to this day, people still come up to him and call him "Bi boy", "Gay boy" and they pass sly comments when teachers aren't around. Now, my friend is made of stern stuff and he's more likely to rip their eyes out than cry about it, but if someone was incredibly fragile emotionally, they could do themselves some serious damage through self-harm or letting the words of others get to them.
If I was homosexual, and if I was going to "come out", I would find myself a partner and do it that way. Having a same-sex partner is just like having an opposite-sex partner, and thus, should be publicised in the same way. Like I said, maybe I am being naive. I just don't understand why homosexuals feel the need to broadcast their sexuality more than heterosexuals do.
Someone could enlighten me and change my mind. I don't know.
Like I said, my views are most likely naive and they will change as I learn more and get older. What I believe about this now will not be the same as I feel in a few years, but right now this is how I see it, that's all.Damocles said:MCFC BOB said:Do homosexuals ever need to "come out"?

Naive isn't the word for this.

The same people on this forum who openly made a joke of this thread and think its acceptable to call people 'gay' as an insult are exactly the same people who would have a blue fit if there was even a hint of racism on this forum.
For example if I started a thread saying would you accept an openly Muslim poster on this forum I'd get canned and yet this thread ha been allowed to rumble on.
